Finally got it all finished up.

My camp is on the back-end of me and my brother's property in west Texas.  I've got power running to the building and both trailers (and a 8500 watt Genny on a small flatbed) Water is obtained via well that is not in the picture.  I also have Dish Network running to both trailers.

We've got 178 acres, two stock-tanks, a creek that runs right through the middle of the property,3 protein feeders, 4 corn feeders.  Game is abundant (Hogs, Whitetail, Turkey).

The toys in the pic are mine (I've got an Arctic Cat TRV 650 on the way) and my bro has a Ranger as well.

I'll post some more pics of the property when they become available.

So what do you guys think?

I'd say, based on your text and the pic, that you wouldn't be messed with out there for awhile if something bad happened... unless your less-prep-minded neighbors know how well prepped you are.

I also assume you have some crops to add to the wild meat...

My neighboors have no idea about our preps and they are never there anyway.

We are working on a garden right now, but won't have anything to harvest for a while.

Thanks for the positive comments

Did you tow that trailer/RV with that Toyota? I hope not.
Good looking setup. What are you planting in the garden? Will the hogs/deer/coons be well fed or will you fence it?

Negative, I used the wifes Expedition to tow that thing from Baton Rouge, LA.

As for the garden we are still debating what to plant.  Any suggestions?

We are not going to game fence the property, it is simply too expensive.

Thanks for the comments...

Looks like a great set-up to me.  Maybe he was asking if you planned to fence off the garden to keep animals out.

Ahh...now I understand.  The answer to that is yes.  We do intend to fence off the garden with chicken wire.  At this point we have used rail-road ties stacked 2 high around the perimeter of the garden.  It is 15x30.  We have cleared the ground, layed the ties and are waiting for the load of soil to fill it up.  We will build a frame to hold the chicken wire after that.

We are concerned about what will and will not grow well in said garden.  The location is West Texas and to say it can get hot and dry would be an understatement.  I live in D/FW and the BOL is 2 1/2 hours west, so it is not possible to be there all the time to water and maintain etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions about some good veggies that would work well in my situation?

Thanks

Is this going to be a short or long term BOL?

Short term it looks great...remote and probably a very good kill zone around your "homestead".

Long term is pretty bleak.  How will you obtain water when the electricity goes off and you run out of fuel for your genny?  How will you irrigate your crops.  Yes crops.  A simple garden ain't going to cut it.  Once your long term food storage runs out do you realize what kind of work will be involved in sustenance gardening?  Got seed for your crop?  Heirloom seed that breed true over multiple plantings?

Not trying to rag you on the subject but my little group I'm in were talking long term and weaknesses in our preps.  We've been at it since the 80's and have a pretty good setup(so we think).  Fairly remote BOL, living quarters, well and stream on property, several generators varying in range from 2.5 kw to 35kw.  Even alternative power in the form of solar cells.  Couple years worth of long term storage foods and a arms and ammo room that would make you weep.

But we are beginning to realize we are not prepared for the long haul and in the likely event of a worldwide SHTF event..its going to be generations getting back to the level of pre-industialized America.

Couple good books to read are "Dies the Fire" and "Island in the Sea of Time" by S.M. Stirling.

And heres a good article on sustenance gardening.

nice...  dunno why, but I really liked that your dog was biting the other one,  just funny I guess..  Suggestions, rain water collection..  I know it doesn't rain alot out there, but you can make use of every last drop, google it..  If you have a working water system (on grid),  you can get a cheap timer and soaker hoses to water you garden for you while your away..  If your going to do raised beds, make them two or three feet wide by however long,  this will keep you from walking on your good soil and allow you access to all of you crops (leave enough room for a wheel barrow between beds)..  Consider "companion gardening"  to help keep pests away form your crops, it's not an end all solution for pests, but it helps..

If my spelling is fuct, fogive me.  The Spurs just won big time and I'm a little lit.
Keep up the good work.

Very nice!! Please give map directions so in SHTF situation I can come to you and pop my tent up under that shelter. Seriously nice location. Abundant game is very nice food source to have with no maintainence required.
