| Does anyone know of a way to store seeds long term? I would like to store a full crop worth of seeds as a reserve in case something happens to my crop PSHTF. |
Shamlessly stolen from here:

I'll paraphrase the info feral provided: Take all your extra seeds and date the packages if they are not already dated (Pkg'd for 2007). Stuff 'em in a clean dry 5# coffee can and snap the lid on. Store the can in your cold room (if you have one), There are three big hazards when storing seeds: 1) Moisture 2) Rodents 3) Heat Some seeds store well for extended periods. Other do not. In my experience corn (for example) frequently runs about 90% germination year one if handled properly. By year two it drops to maybe 75% or less. By year three germination starts falling off a cliff even if seeds were stored correctly. |
So then what about throwing them in the freezer? would that harm or help? |
