Look for a diesel that runs at 1600 rpm's (or a similar low rpm) as apposed to 3,000(plus or minus).
How many watts do you want to produce?
I assume this is for powering your house for realatively short durations (when the grid is down)
What is your price range?

I have the 22 hp changfa single and love it. It is coupled to a 15K head that is
4 pole (1,800 rpm). this is more than enough for my needs since I have most
of my demand on propane.

If I had to start again I'd get the 12 hp and set it up with a couple of Large
read 300 amp alternators with a half dozen batterys and 2 inverters and run it
at about 1,200 rpm and let the batterys handle the surge since I only use
about 2.4K per hr in my highest demand summer load.

this is for 24/7 operation since they only use about a gallon every 6 hrs at this
speed and load.

I'm useing about 1 gal every three hrs. running 1,800 rpm with this light
load but the unit isn't even broke in yet and has been useing less and less
with each use.

this set up is a true shtf, teoke set up since you can run all kinds of oil's
thru it  that are avaiable every where i.e. behind restraunts , waste oil, etc.
you can even grow and press your own .

Highly recomended while you can still get them(epa has stoped imports).
allthough I think Hardy diesel has got around this.

I have this unit.

Another others with exeperience on these changfa  units?  Obviously, it's chinese, but I don't think there are many other simple diesels available...  I was thinking this could be mounted in a dedicated outbuilding with appropiate intake/exhaust?

I've looked into these units.  They are a Yanmar Chinese made clone.  If anyone has one, I'd be interested in their opinion of it.
