Alas Babylon is indeed excellent.

Now read Lucifer's Hammer by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven.

Heh, just dug out my BSA handbook, circa 1979, the other night....its dog eared and well worn but brought back a lot of memories My dads dedication to 8 year old 'me' inside the front pages was a very nice trip down memory lane. Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago...

Try The Devils Advocate by Taylor Caldwell.

It was first published in 1952, but is eerily current not only in its theme, but in its references to modern day society.

If you haven't already read it, try Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, and maybe Day of the Triffids, by John Wyndham. If you want more, I have a much longer list.

I just finished "Alas Babylon" last week. Great book. I am starting "unintended consequences" by John Ross this week.

Light's Out is next... printed all the chapters from Frugal Squirrel while I was at work today. I'll start it over the weekend.

How can you order " Patriots " ?  I get that next.
