My wife is encouraging me to store fuel.  I've only got about 10 gallons, enough to run the mower in cheap, plastic red Blitz cans.

I know that there are the surplus jerry cans which can be found online for between $10 to 15 a pop.  But I would like to store about 50 gallons or so, enough to fill both vehicles.

I haven't priced this, but I'm sure that a 50 gallon drum, plus the cost of the pump would probably run about the same cost as 10 5 gallon jerry cans, maybe $150 total.

So what does everyone recommend?

I keep a metal jerry can in the truckbed, but store close to 50 gallons in my garage.
I use the 5 gallon plastic blitz containers, and it works fine for me.
Add some sta-bil, and forget about them for a few months.

I wanted to do the same as you (store some backup fuel) and went with surplus MFCs from Majors. It was a bit of an ordeal getting good ones but in the end Majors hooked me up with replacements for the bad ones they originally sent.

MFCs are much more portable than the large drum you mention. In a situation where you actually need this resource, portability could be important. It's also easier to rotate your stocks efficiently when they are stored in smaller containers.

I think she just wants to be able to drive her beloved Camry whenever she wants.

She's usually pretty understanding with preps however.

As long as the money is there, and I can give a reason as to why I need to purchase something, she's game.

For example, "Honey, we need food storage so that we can feed your parents and sister during the PAW.  You know that they only have a weeks worth of food at home."
