I'm going to throw a few Dinty Moore microwaveable bowls into the supply kit in my car(replace some of them MREs with something a bit more tastey ), what's the best way to heat these suckers ups?

I could always open the bowl, put the contents into the pot in my mess kit and then use some sterno but that's too much work for both prep and clean up. I've tried using a MRE heater but the bowl is too big for the bag.  Nor I do not think the plastic bowl would last very long if I place it on top of my camp stove with sterno.

EDIT. While a microwave would be the best method, it is not an option.

Get the dinty moore in cans instead, and then you can heat it directly on your camp stove.

The automotive engine is often 220 degrees F. It is hot enough to heat canned food. Placing a can of soup on the engine before a trip results in a nice hot meal.

Ask me how I know!

But cans are heavy, bukly and require a can opener.

Wise cracks aside, isn't the away to jerry rig the heating pad from a MRE heater or something? I see sterno now  has flameless heaters pouches but they seen very very expensive, 60 bucks for 8.

A can on the dashboard in the sun will be plenty warm by lunch if it's a sunny day.  I do this alot if working out of my car and it's not cloudy out.

the really great thing(s) about most canned products, is that while they're more paletable hot, in a pinch they can be eaten cold,

in a BO situation, I can't see hauling a portable heating source that would take up valuable space and add weight that could be used for extra food/med supplies.
