I have about 3 gal of K-1 that I did not use in the heater this winter.  What special things do you all do to store this stuff long term?  Should I use Sta-billa?  I would like to buy a bunch when it is off season, but does it go bad like gas can?  Thanks, I am learning alot here on the survival forum.

I think the answer is one of those gray areas.  I've not had any problems starting the season with last year's kerosine.  Other members have.   Subjectively, my heater seems a bit stinky with old fuel, but it burns just fine.

If it was stored in any reasonable fashion it should be fine. I have small drums that have been stored in less than optimum conditions for at least five years and they seem fine.

It all depends on the conditions and whether or not Murphy takes a liking to ya

Kerosene is easy to store.  I would not add anything to it if it is for a heater, well except some of that scented stuff made to be added to it.

If you have 3 gallons left in a 5 gallon can I would go ahead and fill the can up completely and leave it alone until next winter.

Last winter I left my kerosene heaters full of kerosene.  When I fired them up this winter there were no problems.

I suspect it is easier on the wicks if you are really careful with your kerosene but I don't worry about it.

I don't like the little plastic jugs you can buy 1 gallon of kerosene in, I like real fuel cans or the little 5 gallon metal drums you can get.

The main reason I would fill up the 5 gallon can all the way if that is where your 3 gallons happens to be is because I am a fan of no air space in a fuel can due to condensation and what not.

Thanks, I already burned the heater dry to preserve the wick.  I never thought of filling up the tank.  I will go ahead and try that.
