Why throw it back? Hard to do when you are about 5 miles from the water.

Last evening camping at San Simeon (CA) State Beach.  We had driven up to San Juan Batista and Monterey and had come down CA 1 through Big Sur.  Was already about 45 minutes to sundown.  Ma Danby wanted me to stay and help with dinner.  "Nope, you said if we stopped at that one antique place I could get a little more fishing in, and I didn't stop at the pier where you would have to watch and fuss about the time.  I'm going to try one last time since we leave tomorrow.Besides the tide just started coming in"  She relented and I decided to give it one last shot.  I caught the smallest after my first cast.  The next one hit even before I put the rod in the holder, and it was boom, boom, boom after that.  The above is about 20 minutes of effort.  It took me longer to walk back to the campsite after sundown then it did to catch them.  Barred Surf Perch, nice eating grilled.

Late August 2006, no trips last summer, hoping for at least one this year.  This is the campground, when I caught them the stream lagoon went all the way to the bluffs at the left hand side and the "trail" was on the bluff bottoms part of the way and in the mud flats part way.  I used to have pretty good luck with squid chunks getting both surf perch and shovelnose guitarfish, but not much this trip.I'd had good bites with sand crabs but all way too small to keep.  Although they sure brought in the sea gulls for handouts.  These were all caught using a carolina rig and motor oil grubs

www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/03/10/eveningnews/main3923002.shtml

This is about 5 miles further north (left) along the highway.  And they are hauling out further and further south every year.  The news clip doesn't mention that about 10 years or so ago they actually had to move part of the highway further inland because some of the big bulls were using the road as a rest area.  As you might expect hitting 3000+ lbs of elephant seal is a rude awakening for both of you.

Get a free Photobucket account and never have that be an issue. The location of your fishing sounds incredible...what a beautiful place Big Sur is.

Not me, but my uncle caught a 32lb tuna when we went drift fishing off West Palm Beach a couple years ago.

Yes, there were a lot of Jerry Garcia references made.

Here's the mess it made of the rest of the lines ahead of him on the boat

Slug-O and I went out fishing today to the Mayport Jetties. We left about 1:30pm and got home about 7pm. We hauled butt to the bait shop and gots 2 dozen muddies. Took us about 20 minutes to the fishing spots. I was the first to hook up, it was about a 22 inch redfish. I was like man I should throw it in the well,  we were thinking we should catch some bigger ones and WE DID, TOO BIG infact. After that first fish they just got bigger and bigger. At the end the biggest were over 33 inches we both landed one the same size. We guest them to be about 15 lbs each. In total we landed about 30 redfish most were average 10 lbs or more. So we landed about 300 lbs of fish in about 2 hours. Both of use got beat up by them. It felt great thow. It was amazing there was only about 3 other boats out there today. One hell ofa day we will never forget. Tuna.

Lemon shark.... Not near as tasty as I was told it would be...

Red, caught on a 10 inch mullet I had pinned to the bottom for snookies..

MY "wallmount" Pfleuger mount done on 74 pound sail that hit in 34 feet of water just outside the St Lucie inlet one morning... was not expecting anything, i had fished the flats all night and it was dead calm and flat  at sunup.. so i took my little 15 foot tin boat outside for a bit.. I hooked up with this one about 5 minutes outside .. just me and my little boat.. was fun. had to have the mount done.

when the water is shitty and nothin much is biting I will go after these guys... this one was about 120 or so..

One of my favorite dinners... I will hit all the markers inside running north and south between the FP and SL inlets.. good eatin fish right here.

A little silver king out of the FP inlet...
