I grew up going to fish for bluegill almost every weekend with my grandfather. It was simple, set a bobber, put a cricket on the hook, watch it go down, set the hook, reel, get the fish. I picked up a bit more here and there, but that's most of what I know. My daughters and wife are both into that, and my wife wants to get into more than that. My dad and I were never very close growing up, but as we've grown older, that's changed, and he's wanting to get back into fishing as well. So, in order to play catch up with my dad, and spend time with my wife and girls, where do I learn more about fishing?
Pretending I know nothing (almost true) where would I start to get the knowledge to enjoy the great fishing that Arkansas offers? Consider me putty in your hands fishing forum. |
| I think our target species are so different that I couldn't begin to give you much advice about gear and waters. That being said, find a local bait and tackle shop (not the big box stores) and pay them a visit. You will get good advice about local fishing. Talk to co workers and neighbors that fish as well. You will find that most fishermen, when not fishing, are more than happy to talk about it. |
| Guys around here are kinda secretive when it comes to spots etc, I belong to a local fishing forum and there are new guys on there that within there first 5 post are asking for your honey holes. I would maybe google fishing in your area and see if there are any fishing forums(like Arcom) for your state. I belong to Ohiogamefishing and it covers fishing in this state(and some others) pretty dang well, lots of other subforums as well. |

I have learned so much just hanging around and shooting the shit at these places. Fisherpeople love to talk your ear off about previous conquests |

Another thing you can do is hire a guide. I've done it on bodies of water that I'm new to even though I have a fair amount of experience with fishing in general.
Find a guide that you like and seems like they will be helpful even if you ask the dumbest of questions. Next, don't forget to ask dumb questions. |
