I've talked to people who were catching them (on purpose).  Some use kernals of corn (cover the hook) and some used home made bread dough balls.  Cast it out with enough weight to hold it in place and wait.

You know carp can get pretty big.

Customer of mine gave me a good recipe for carp.

1.Buy a plank of pine board about the same size of the carp.
2.cook carp over open flame for about 2-3 minutes on each side.
3. When cooked thoroughly, throw the carp away
4. Eat the plank of wood.

I asked him why "eat the wood?" He said, "Ever eat carp? tastes like crap"

I dont think I ever had carp.

+1 for canned corn.  Put a few kernals on a small hook and weight it to sit on the bottom.  You can also chum a few handfulls out around your baited hook if the law permits.

Canned Corn.  I use a size 8 hook with two kernals on because they seem to notice the bigger hooks.  I caught tons of 12 to 15 pounders this way.

We used to use corn or the dough balls or even wheatie balls work took. Often I see them sitting near the surface and snag them. They are ok to eat but have many bones.

Pedigree Dog Mixer, the solid stuff.  Used to work like a charm back in England so no reason for it not to work here.

Down here we have sterile Grass carp in the lakes. They get huge. I use bread and local vegetation off the shore to catch them.

When I was younger my dad would drop me off at a pond and I would fish all day. Nothing but carp. I can not count how many summers I spent at the nearby pound catching carp. I've seen and caught carp off of ham, hot dogs, corn and bread. Guys would tear off a corner of a slice of bread and throw it in with a handful of the bread torn up. I have seen big carp 20 plus pound carp come up to the surface for the bread. No sinker, no bober just that bread floating on top of the water. I remember always getting pissed when we were using bread b/c all the ducks would not leave us alone. Out of every bait I have to say the best thing there is to catch a carp is corn. Hands down. No matter what anyone says. Corn is the best. We were like 14 years old catching these monsters. It was a blast. You learned how to land a fish real quick. I will never forget those days.

I fish for them when we get bored catching smallmouth.  I shit you not the best way we found to catch them is to fish under a mulberry tree.  Go grab a few and put a couple on your hook.  Toss it under the tree and hang on.

Get you some big red and some cornflakes. Crush the cornflakes up and add bigred to  it  work the bigred into it with your hands until its like dough or till you think its good enough to stay on a hook. Put it on a treble hook and your good to go..  THIS WORKS!
