I hope ya'll are ready to see alot more of me in here.  I'm really excited about this, as I've been thinking about it for about 2 years now.  Bow season opens down here in a month and a couple of days.  Looking forward to it, but have a lot of practicing to do.

Here's what I got so far:

Mission Journey bow.  30.5 "  draw, 70 lb draw weight.
Trophy taker fall away rest.
TruGlo micro adjustable sights.
Limbsavers
2 dozen Gold tip arrows.
1 dozen 100 gr target points
1 dozen Rage, 100 grain mechanical broadheads.

Thanks to Clydes archery in Corpus Christi, Texas.

How did I do so far?

Get a string loop, release, and a peep your shooting will get a lot better.

Sorry, I guess I should've said that in the OP.

I got a loop, and a peep.  They're going to install them as soon as my bow comes in.

As for the release, I am going to wait until the bow gets here, and then try a few different ones, to find out what I like, but so far, I really like the Scott they had me using on the test bows.

Sounds like you're off to a good start.  I would just suggest that you have them go over form and follow through with you while your there.  Getting started out right makes all the difference, you won't have any bad habbits to break.

I hope we do see a lot more of you and others around here.

Be sure to show off your new bow in tthe picture thread when you get it.

Mission Journey

this bow is absolutly awesome!  It's made by Matthews.

I will post pics when mine comes in, but until then ya'll are gonna have to make due with this.

On a side note, I have 3, 1 hour lessons coming, once the bow gets there, and gets set up.

That is very similar to my Switchback XT, which I have been more than happy with.

How long do you have to wait for your bow?

2 weeks.  Plus 2 days to get it all put together.

If this holds true, I'll have about 3 weeks to practice before deer season opens.  Not sure if that's enough time.   I'm kinda nervous about trying to stick an animal with something I've only been practicing with for 3 weeks.

What do you think?  If I can practice 2 or 3 hours a day, and am confident in my ability to make a humane kill, should total time spent with a bow dictate wether or not I throw an arrow at something?

By the way, in the mean time, until my bow gets here, I'm still toying around with a friends bow to kinda get the overall basics down.  So I won't be a total newbie.

He is the one who got me interested in the first place.

It totally depends on how you do as an archer.  You may have to limit your range to 20 yards for a while.  But distance will come with time.  If you don't have a rangefinder, it might not be a bad idea to get one.

I would practice further out than what you plan on limiting yourself to for hunting.  If you say no more than a 30 yard shot at a deer, I would practice out to 40 or more.  Hunting conditions usually aren't as comfy as practice conditions.

I've got a Leica 1200 LRF for long range shooting.  That should work for 40yards or less.  And where I plan on sitting with the bow this year, it will be easy to mark 10, 20, and 30 with rocks or sticks.  Will that work?

I've been shooting my friends bow out to 30, and manage to keep 10 out of 10 in the "kill zone"  from different angles, and positions.  I think I should be ok, but would like to practice alot more before I go for something alive.
