I have a blower and trimmer in gas and an electric blower and electric hedge trimmers. They all work great and I have been happy with them. No chainsaw myself but my dad has some and I never heard him complain or cuss about them and he used them for work.

Picked up a twice used farm boss for $150 earlier this summer, have a blower picked up at a garage sale also.

My favorite is still my Pro Mac 10/10s though. Screw noise and pollution regs.............

I have several.   All start immediately and run great, and have done so for many years.    You MUST use ethanol-free gas.

If you are happy with your Stihl saws that is fine I guess but my two Echo saws start right up too and left me with quite a bit more money in my pocket.

I've got two, An 034 that's so old it has "made in West Germany" on it and a newer MS250.

Both run and cut great but it's getting tough to find actual Stihl parts for the 034 and a lot of the aftermarket stuff is Chicom garbage.
No more geriatric politicians.

When I was working, all we ever bought for professional work was Stihl or Husqvarna. Everything else just would not handle 8 hours a day five days a week. No longer made but the 026 saws took a beating and would keep on running. Just clean them, religiously change the air and fuel filters, keep good bar and sharp chain. They kept on running. Maybe that’s why they were discontinued, worked a bit too good.

I have a Farm Boss as my personal truck box saw. Always starts, even on chilly days. I’ve also got a little limbing saw, an Echo. But I can’t trust that it will always start or finish a job. But I keep it around till I get around to getting a Stihl MS 201.

I have the same saw as OP. It hasn’t been used much, can still read the original price sticker from Southern States. It leaks bar oil horribly. Have to put plastic under it in the shed because it will leak out every last drop. Pain in the ass, has done it since day 1.

Most of Stihls carbs and no telling what else is already being made in China and has been for years. I wouldn't sleep on the aftermarket if you want to keep an old saw running.

I've rebuilt 2 saws using Amazon purchased cylinder and piston kits. One was 5 years ago and its still going good. I use that one alot.
The other I did a big bore kit on a ms310 last week. Cost $25 for the kit. Runs great.

Ive had a few larger tree felling Stihls over the years. They are excellent saws.
Nowdays Im not knocking down trees that much but I own a small farm so I need a reliable powerful saw for general use.
My farm boss has been an excellent investment. It sits on my shelf for month after month not being used,  then we need it for something and we run it like a scalded dog for a week, then back on the shelf.
Always runs, starts and cuts.

Stihl is the way.
Dont call it a comeback, Been here for years.

Stihl and Echo are pretty much your only choices now. Husqvarna has been checked out for a while. I dont think theres a single stocking Husky deal in the Houston area. Stihl and Echo are everywhere.

I love my Stihl. Or loved anyway.

Recent ice storm and my buddy had a half a tree come down. No problem, I’ll come by with the saw next morning. Lemme just make sure she starts up and I have bar oil.

Will not start. Played with it for 90 min or so. Spark plug sparking. New mix gas. Even dribbled a bit into the chamber one of the times I had the plug out. Didn’t even do the burp that means it’s about to start. Cord pulls easy with plug out, tight with plug in. Still haven’t gotten it going. When it warms up I’m gonna take the carb off and seafoam it I guess.

It’s not new; maybe 7-8. But only used maybe a dozen times? Frustrating.

Replace the plug with a new one.

And you likely flooded it initially.

I love the OLDER Stihl saws.  I have a 044, 440, and a 362.  Almost any saw will fire right up if you use non-ethanol fuel, Sta-Bil, and store it out of the weather, the space doesn't have to be temperature controlled, but at temperature "stable."

My mother in law cheaps out and buys ethanol gas, then leaves the gas in it for 12+ months, and then wonders why it won't start when she needs it.

Not sure how flooding could occur. There’s no priming bulb. You just depress safety, pull trigger, move to choke and release. Then brace and pull. Even still, I let it sit and went back. Even tried again the next day. No joy.

I pulled the plug, cleaned it, grounded and pulled and saw spark. So it’s working. I did go to get a new one anyway, but google failed me and got me the wrong size.

I first figured it was fuel line, because it wouldn’t even burp. I figure if the carb is sticky/restricting air, it should at least try to start…I mean that’s what a choke does, right? But dripping fuel directly in didn’t help either. So yeah, I’ll swap the plug just cuz it’s easy, but then I’m back to the carb. If that doesn’t do it, it’s gotta be the fuel line. I mean there’s only three things it can be: fuel, air, or spark!

It’s just been too cold to work on the damned thing, and I’m not gonna do it in the house.

Ultimately though, I got a Stihl so I wouldn’t have to deal with this. But yet here I am.

Watch this 3 minute video.
Starting a Stihl Chainsaw the correct way. NEVER flood it Again!

In the warmer months here in the Mid-West, I'll hear the 'burrrp' on full choke, then go straight to the on position.

With all my carb'd motorcycles, I first try to start without the choke at all using no throttle.  If I need the choke ( again, using no throttle ) I take it off as soon as it will run on its own at idle and let them warm up that way.  I've had two Yamaha's that require a throttle pump or two in the beginning, but other than that I keep my hand off the throttle as much as possible.

Chainsaws are designed to be run wide open damn near all the time and that small engine warms up pretty quick.

Yeah, it never burped. And you can’t drop start my saw. Not just cuz Stihl says not to, but because you can’t. The compression is tight so the pull is too hard and it will just jerk the chainsaw, swinging the bar right at your leg. It must be on the ground or you’re gonna hurt yourself.

Just bought my first Echo and my first battery powered saw.  We’ve been using 2 of these saws on the Christmas Tree Farm for about 4 years now.  We can cut around 150-200 trees per battery charge and we have 2 batteries per saw.

It’s really nice just for doing small yard work.  My wife likes using it.

IMO, you waited too long before taking the choke off.

Two, three pulls.  Take choke off and give it a pull or two.
You don't need to hear the burp.  Especially in warmer weather.
( I just experienced this myself last week )

I don't believe it.  I drop start built saws that have more compression than stock all the time.
