| Im looking for a framed pack system( it must be camo). It needs to be versatile, my needs are as follows: the pack must be able to convert to day pack or fanny pack ( fanny pack or day pack must be designed for use of Nalgene water bottle), must be capable to pack animal while in day mode with built in straps to the frame, must have large pack that can come off easy and must be water resistant. Any pack out there like this? |

Get one of these, put it on this. Then get this to dock to the frame, or some stuff off of this page and apply to suit. These will make it nalgene compatible.
I do sip this flavor of cool aid, but it is actually a well thought out and versatile system. However, you need patience and a healthy wallet.

He doesn't show it in the video, but the cargo panel also attaches to the bottom of the Marauder and larger packs and contains your cargo between the outside of the pack and the cargo panel.
This video shows how to attach pockets to the frame above. In conjunction with the cargo hauler and additional pouches on the PALS on the outside, it makes a pretty versatile system.
There is another video out there where he puts it all together, but I couldn't find it. |

Once you get the cargo panel and frame, you can attach almost any PALS daypack to it, with the appropriate hardware (I think they use the ITW repair buckles). Of course any MOLLE pouches can be attached to the outside. You are not limited to only Kifaru stuff.
ETA: I just tried to take some pics with a Tactical Taylor 3day+ pack (it has no MOLLE) attached, but they didn't turn out very well. To do it right I would need a four pieces of webbing with two of the male buckle ends each (you will need these and four of the repair buckles with a MOLLE pack to). I did get it attached in a useable fashon, but it wasn't optimal. |

Not an external frame pack but the best hunting pack I have used is an Eberlestock Dragon Fly. It cinches down enough to make a good day back but when needed it expands out to carry more meat then the average guy can pack. Pack is camo and made from softer material that doesn't make much noise when crawling through the brush or short trees. Pack technology is so much better these days and external frame packs don't hold a candle to the modern internal frame jobs. As for the water bottle about any pack has the attachments to attach any water bottle holder you want. Old military gear is just that old and there is a reason that backpackers and guys that spend a lot of time under a pack don't use it.
But what do I know as I only spent 20 years under a pack humping more steel through the woods then I care to think about most days. |
