Which fish do best in northern Indiana, that would be a good choice for a small pond 1/8 acre.  I dug it for a swimming pond but found leaches this weekend.  Neighbor says bass is good,  It's 20 foot deep so winter freeze should not be a problem , and I allready have a bubbler system installed.

Let me add this . Which would be better tasting or replenishing their  numbers?  Some fresh fish would be a nice addition to SHTF supplies.

I am not a fishin man as you all can tell.

crappie will overpopulate and the polulation will level with little 6inch fish. make sure if theyre in there you have some predators. id go for bluegill instead

Bluegill, and catfish.
you can get some that grow jumbo sized quick, but you got to feed them regular to get those results.

Wouldn't bass take care of the leaches problem?

A couple of my neighbors said bass would work great, it's finding a pond that allows fishing around here.  I found a wholsaler (fish) and he says he and his son are going fishing soon .  Maybe they can drop off some bass.

I had the same thing, but in Louisiana.  The fish I stocked should also work there.  Hybrid Bluegill, which is a mix bluegill and green sunfish.  They are very aggressive, yet grow to a very large size for panfish.  I also stocked channel catfish and hybrid bass.  Whatever catfish you stock you will have to restock as you catch/eat them, as catfish generally only spawn when there is a current, and you won't have that in your pond.  Bass will do well, but you need to stock fathead minnows else they'll only have whatever panfish you stock to eat.  Bass won't eat commercial fish food unless they're starving.

Don't stock bluegill without a predator fish or else they will over populate and become stunted.  Bluegill with bass make a nice combination.

BG with LMB is the standard.
Or maybe HySF and channel cats, on a pelleted diet.
You'd need to restock every few years, but fast growing, and good eating.
My advice would be consult your state DNR, as to what works in YOUR area.

Bluegill, largemouth bass, and channel catfish do well in Indiana. They are pretty much everywhere. Also they shouldn't be much of a hassle to manage.

PondBoss has tons of info on the subject. Fishing forums will have some useful information as well.
