getting another deer rifle. I want the 25-06 no other seems to be on my list at the moment in comparison. I am leaning towards a Tikka T3. I like the detachable mag and they are really accurate. If I could get a winchester model 70 with a detachable mag in this caliber I would be all over it, cuz I like their tang style safety so much better, but at least the Tikka's is off to the side of the bolt instead of in the middle like the browings or savages. I know Remingtons make a clip system that you can adapt to them instead of the floor plate, but I don't know much about them. So what does everyone else think. Or how much is a 25-06 AR

| I have a Remington 700 Stainless Sendero in 25-06. I topped it off with a Leupold VXIII 4.5 x 14 with an adjustable objective. I just love it. Just shot another buck with it on Saturday. My Dad uses a 25-06 also but his is a Remington 700 synthetic stainless with the detachable mag. Neither one of us has had a deer go anywhere after it was hit. I think part of that is good shot placement. My rifle usually will shoot a 3 shot group you can cover with a nickel at 100 yds with Remington Core-lokt 120 grain. Can't wait to get some loads made up for it to see what they can really do. I would definitely go with a 25-06 you won't be sorry. It works well for deer. |
| I too have a Remington Sendero in 25-06 and it has turned out to be one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. While working up loads for it this year(just traded for it in April),I fired 3 three shot groups that all measured 3/8 inch C to C.Two were shot with Hornady 117 BTSP and one with Berger 115 VLD.The 25-06 is a fantastic and accurate deer/antelope cartridge and is a good varmint gun with lighter bullets.Good luck in your quest. |
| Part of the fun is the hunt. Start looking in shops for a used Model 70 and have it rebarrelled. Just like a new but maybe better. . My friend found a Argentine Mauser that was bubbed so bad he got it for 45.00 dollars. He had a 7mm08 barrrel and the most beautiful Claro walnut stock fitted, polished up and he loves to hunt with it. It's just a perfect rifle. And no one else has one like it. |
I have a Rem 700, I replaced the wood stock with synthetic. The wood was just too damn nice to mess up.
Anyhow, I got it used, added the stock, a quick clip, and a scope. 3 shot groups in under 1/3 of an inch, C to C, with nosler 100gr ballistic tips. Never needed a 2nd bullet while hunting. Switched over to 100gr Barnes X and whacked a 225lb pig at just over 100yrds. Still didnt need the 2nd bullet. The 25-06 + some range time and you're set.

I thought I saw my name in the thread title I have owned quite a few 25-06s over the years and all were great shooters. The 25-06s is best descrived as a long range deer rifle that has awsome potential as a long range varmint gun. In recent years I switched to the 243 for my long range varmint hunting and the 270 for deer but that is certainly not to imply I ever had a deer that didn't drop to the 25-06's charms. Awsome round and I am a huge fan of the Rem 700 action myself as that is the only bolt action centerfire rifle I own these days. |

Never heard that before, but it makes sense. all that power buring thru that tiny little hole. but with ammo prices what they are, it'll take me forever and a day to put 1000 rounds thru mine

keep on the look out for an appropriate bbl wrench, a quality bbl, and some go no go gauges. then you will be good to go. also as a stop gap, once the throat is burned out you can have your bbl cut down and re-reamed; it will just be a little shorter. |

| I've always been a huge fan of the .25-06. Heck, as far as ammo availability goes, my local Wal-Mart stocks it. I've owned many rifles chambered in that caliber, but sadly, I do not have any now. I do have plans to buy a .25 WSSM upper, which is basically a .25-06 with a short enough case to work in an AR-15 rifle. In fact, the .25 WSSM is about 100 FPS faster than the .25-06 with the same bullet weight. |
