I perfer Leatherman Wave, I carry this every day.
but I have a Surge also in a BOB.
I also have a gerber but I do not like having to open the pliers to open the blades.
You can get the knock off for lest but they just will not hold up.

I have owned a bunch including Gerbers, Leathermans, & Byrds but I use my Leatherman Wave the most.

I have had several as well - and love that SOG is US Made - but the antiguner made a winner with the Wave - best one I have owned.

I have a Leatherman Surge.  It's works well  for general purpose.  If you're having trouble deciding, take a look at this website.  It does a decent job of breaking down the features of some of the most popular brands and models.  Good luck!

Been using the same wave for over 8 years. Been through 1000's of hunting/fishing trips, 4 years in the Infantry including a tour to Iraq and everyday use. This thing still looks/works the same as the day i got it. Politics aside it is a damn fine tool. Kind of unreal how well it's held up even the blades are still sharp.  I had a Gerber once felt it was a pos and gave it to a British soldier. .

I've been using a Victorinox Swiss Tool for about 4 years now. Very durable. Locking blades/tools and you don't have to open the pliers to get to them.

Leatherman Wave, hands down.

Fuck, Uncle Same gave me a FREE Gerber this deployment - it is the biggest POS gerber I have had yet - and is buried in a duffle bag for a reason.

Leatherman wave. i have been beating the hell out of the same one for about 3 years now.
I also keep a leatherman micra in the elastic on the side of the sheath.

SOG powerlock. I have 2 and the crappy .mil Gerber. And a leatherman.

No way would I give up the SOG for anything else.

I've tried Gerber, Winchester, no-name gifts from vendors, and another that I can't remember, but after finally getting a Leatherman Wave I'll never buy anything else (well, maybe a Ti)

I put in the second vote for the swiss tool, I have had one for 9 years, and just a month ago one of the tangs that brace the pliers broke. I sent it back and they send me a brand new one. I guess that is what they mean by lifetime warranty. I love it.

Wow - amazing to see so much universal support for one specific multi-tool.  That says A LOT right there.  It is a HUGE market, with a LOT of choice, yet the WAVE stands head and shoulders above the competition.

THe Supertool was a heck of a lot better than the Wave but its no longer made.  I have a Wave and 4-5 Supertools.  I carry a supertool ever day and have for about a decade with no plans to change.

Another +1 for the Wave here, I own 2 and carry one every day at work.  The new Gerbers are getting better, and the SOG are pretty good also.

I despised my Supertool.  It was my supertool that caused me to got through several iterations of Gerbers and other brands before discovering the Wave.  The Supertool was too heavy, but - most importantly - locking mechanism was too asinine.

I've owned many multitools over the years, Gerber, Leatherman, Sog, and the el-cheapos you can get just about anywhere.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with the Leatherman WAVE. Decent price, good assortment of tools, and one of the biggest reasons I transitioned from my old Gerber, it doesn't pinch my fingers/ had when I need to clamp down on something.

Leatherman Wave for the money.  The Leatherman Charge has a couple extra features and is less weight, but not worth the increase in price.  I'll be sticking with the Wave.

I carry the original Leatherman Wave - its a good multitool.  I've not seen anything else I want to spend the money on.

For you Leatherman Wave guys...

Do you find that the blades are very stiff or do they have a flex to them?  My saw blade can be flexed.  Is this normal or did I get a lemon?  I can take it back because I purchased it at REI.

Thanks.

No, my saw blade does not flex.  It may be a bad batch?  The number inside of my tool on the can opener side is 0607.  Not sure if that means anything.

I have used the Leatherman Supertool 200 for five years now, including a two-year tour in Korea and a 15 month deployment in Iraq. All the other lades and tools on it aside, the philips-head screwdriver is my favorite, as it gets every screw that the other drivers in the toolbox slip on.

I have a pair of SOG powerpliers that I got over 12 years ago.  It just recently started getting a little loose where the handles are riveted to the pliers. I've abused the heck out of them but they still work like a charm.  If there wasn't a decent alternative to the Leatherman I would probably go with the Wave. But since SOG is still in business  I'll give my money to someone who deserves it.

I use a leatherman wave like many others here for my multitool

I believe they are making a bigger version of the wave now, however I dont recall the "name" of it.

Still have my spring assist kershaw for my everyday knife though....

Another vote for the Wave.  I have a Charge Ti on my belt right now, but I had to try the latest/greatest.  It is a very nice tool, and I think a tiny bit better than the wave, but not worth the money if you only want one.

Especially since the new Wave tools have the replaceable bits now also.

Edit to add;

My sawblade does flex side to side a bit, but not up and down.....uh, did that make sense??

Another wave fan here! I also have the supertool. And I have been eyeing up the newer swiss army lockbacks (the locksmith). I do use the pliers but not too much in the woods. The lighter weight of the sak locksmith is also a plus.

I must admit to being a multitool junky, so I picked up a Leatherman Skeletool.

I find it to do about 80 % of what the wave will do, but much lighter and easier to carry
Not that the Wave is difficult, but the skeletool carries with a pocket clip).

Interesting.

I just picked up a Surge today since I accidentally tried to smuggle my Wave through security at O'Hare Airport and it was too late to get it to my checked baggage.

I wanted something different - saw no need for two Waves.

I am now also a Surge user.

I have had various leathermans in the past but so far my swisstool beats them all in the area of solid construction. One thing to note, though is the lethermans are a bit lighter (IMO) than the swisstool if that is a concern.

I have the old wave that says "made in the usa"  It is my favorite but the other waves I have are also very nice.  My old school gerber was back from the early days of multi tool.  I think the only options then were the original leatherman and then came the bigger version.  The gerber served me very well all through  my military days though I think the metal was a bit brittle.  Some guys somehow broke stuff on theirs.

I do not think you can go wrong with a wave, gerbers, sogs, victorinox or schrade(if you can find one).
