Got my 4.5-27x Razor today.     Current rings are Vortex Precision matched 1".  I'm thinking I might get away with the .92".. I need to measure still though.. The center tube actually seems slightly closer to the base than the objective is to the barrel.  I can't find my feeler gauges to check it.  I do know that I'm not satisfied with my cheek weld right now, I'm gonna have to get some adhesive foam or something for my stock, if I stick with these rings.  I am going to end up with the new Vortex flip up covers eventually so I need to factor this in.

I would leave it there and just build up the comb a bit. Going through the trouble of a ring change don't seem worth the .080". The Defender flip covers add some thickness over regular covers. A nickle is about .075-.077" BTW.

If you go lower it will be close, especially if you use the sunshade. You could always get something like a triad stock pack that lets you build the comb up. Cheek weld is definitely important.

I would leave it there. Add a set of Defender caps and it will be closer to the barrel.

Also something to watch is the power ring and depending on scope position on the rail with the lower rings it might contact the base.

Yeah I suppose the lower rings will offer such a small amount of drop vs my current setup that it really isn't worth the hassle even if it would clear everything.  After shooting it yesterday (at 100 yards to get a good zero and get a feel for it) I do feel better about it, but may still build up the comb just a smidgen.

What an awesome scope btw.  Very strange way to zero the turrets but I got the hang of it.  I can't friggin' wait to get it out and start shooting steel at unknown distances.

Especially if you add a cat tail throw lever thing.

I thought about it but I'd rather spend the $50 on bullets.  The power ring is super stiff bu I figure that's because it's brand new.

if you drop the scope tooooo low, you may have trouble with a thicker barrel; that's if you ever plan on changing the barrel out that is...

Don't have to spend $50, although the MGMs are very nice, but you can get a Breakaway version for $15.99. Have grabbed a couple at matches and they work well.
