I'm thinking pretty hard about picking up a 6.5 Creedmoor model However here in Southeast PA the furthest I have easy access to shoot at is about 200 yards What would be a good scope for one of these for less than $800? |

Anyone here own a Ruger Custom Shop RPR? Trying to remove the APA Little Bastard brake to mount suppressor. Got it broke loose but won't screw off freely. Tried propane heat still nada, no set screws. I'm stumped and appreciate any help, thanks! Attached File |

You screw the brake on, time it, and then tighten the nut against the barrels should to "lock" it in place. Removal is the opposite. Mine spins off by hand. |
I'm sure I jacked up the APA brake internally. I just thought it was a traditional jam nut with the brake being separate not integrated together . So I put a wrench on the nut and inserted tool into ports of brake and turn opposite direction to each other. Being a stainless barrel I galled the threads on the end of the muzzle(like the last 3 threads). Was using propane heat and Kroil and was going good till I almost had it off. It seized up and knew I was screwed then(no going back). Just applied more torque. I'll have to send the barrel off to get fixed. Not sure if they can make it a 25" barrel or have to make it a 24"? I know nothing about lathes and turning barrels, cutting threads and re-crowning. Smith will know how much to cut down.Attached File Edited for picture |
It was MY screw up and wasn't going to send it off to Ruger to have them fix my screw up. Plus I think they're all out of the custom shop 26" CHF 5R barrels anyway. As they no longer have the 6.5 creedmoor in stock only the 6 creedmoor. And I don't want a 6 creedmoor ETA so I bought a prefit RPR barrel and installed it today. Pretty easy honestly, and my barrel nut was not a bear to break loose. Hardly any effort using a Icon 1/2" breaker bar. No cheater bar needed like what some have needed on YouTube. Arken is a great option especially if on a budget(been proven). |
| It may have already been asked in this 90 pager. What safety selector lever has anyone used to replace the factory AR-15 style lever? I dont want ambi due to right hand grip interference, but want a lever that sticks out a little further so its easier to get a thumb grip in both directions. My RPR .308 is a Gen 1 version, and the left side of the lower definitely doesnt offer a good user interface, it practically obstructs the safety. |
 This thread could use a bump so here is my custom shop 6.5CM RPR that I finally got to shoot today. I have added Long Shot Precision adjustable bag rider and Catalyst Arms extended mag release. I need to get the matching rear bag. A squeeze bag doesn't work well with the ABR. |

For the price, the RPR is a great LR rifle for those who can't afford those high priced custom action precision rifles. Of the two that I have, my 6.5CM still shoots tighter groups than my 6.5PRC - that could just be me though. No complaints from me on these rifles at all!

 Last November I had noticed a new old stock first gen 243 on the wall of one of the LGS. The salesman said it had been there for 2016. The price was right so I got it and had the 243 barrel replaced with a Criterion 308 barrel before even taking it to the range. I wanted a longer barrel than Ruger offers in 308. That is why I didn't just get a gen 4 instead. Plus, the gen 1 handguard is perfect for the GRS bipod. Yesterday, I took it to the range for break-in. Never use PMC ammo, even their match ammo, for break-in. I was amazed at how dirty it is. It is Wolf level dirty. I should have just used the Hornady, which is much cleaner burning. I will say that between the Magnum muzzle brake and the way the GRS Bipod keeps the recoil straight back, this is the softest shooting 308 I have ever used. Plus it looks cool. ETA- Added a Gen 4 stock, ambi-safety, Magpul grip, Catalyst Arms mag release, and a Triggertech Trigger so that it matches my Gen 4 custom shop model. I upgraded the firing pin, spring, and cocking piece with AD Arms and Anarchy Outdoors parts. I tried a titanium bolt shroud but it did not fit correctly (too tight) I also have a propper scope to swap over from another rifle. I just put this one on there because it was not on anything else at the moment |
