Just got this and tried it out on some signs on a dark rainy day and bright sunny day. The video is rough as I was just holding a digicam behind the range finder.
I confirmed the distance with google map measuring tool. The signs and where I measured from are visible on google so the measurements should be quite accurate. The farthest sign at 2400 yards is a 2'x2' yellow diamond shaped corner sign. Couldn't really find any animals today, I found a horse that I could get at 713yds in the bright sun. Then I proceeded to drop the thing down the side of the dune I was standing on. 
Got it for $745 The aiming rectangle is about 5mil x 4mil from eyeball measuring on a known size target, beam divergence is 2mil(same as Swarovski 8x30 Laser Guide)

I got it to range my steel plates but hopefully I can find some more animals to range. |

Yours would come in handy for some serious shooting with a 338 and above round. I think a bright sunny day is probably the worst case scenario, my understanding is all the extra bright light degrades the return signal. Think of it like sound, in a crowded room full of people talking, it is harder to understand the person you are speaking with but with the room empty and free of outside noise you can hear them fine. The bright sunlight is noise. With that said, it worked fine to 2400yds on that dark rainy evening. I did some before sunrise it worked fine. I got my 100% silhouette at 1000yds along the ocean with a 20mph wind from 90 degrees( blown salt water mist in the air). I am going to play with it some more. As with anything, you'll get more out of it if you learn to use it. |

I took it out today, it was kind of rainy and dark, I wanted to see how far I could range my 100% silhouette.
I carefully set up the target along the freeway at spot I can pinpoint on google maps, then measured at a sign I can see on google then at various light poles and finally at a merge divider, all easy to see on google for measurement confirmation. I took each measurement a few times, say if it was 23,23,22,23 I would call it 23. I could get readings easily until 1895yds where I only got a reading half the tries. My readings from the 18"x30" white silhouette ....Newcon yds.....Google yds 1)... 1141............. 1141.667 2)... 1250............. 1251.21 3)... 1436............. 1438.525 4)... 1623............. 1621.695 5)... 1807............. 1806.634 6)... 1895............. 1904.865 difficult to get a reading I tried to get some video at one point but it was too difficult to see the target through the digicam viewfinder looking through the rangefinder. Below are the results.

Though this does have a compass and speed, the compass could come in handy if you want to adjust for coriolis but so would a couple dollar compass. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile I have the 1600B, nice rangefinder, I've been pretty happy with it so far. I'm not sure what it's top distance would be, depends a lot on the conditions, I've had it range the tires on a center pivot at 1000 yards but really haven't had the opportunity to try to range a deer or coyote. The 1600B doesn't have a tripod socket which is a minus for sure, there are ways to work around that but for $800 or so you shouldn't have to. |
