Anyone have any experience with these products? I'm thinking about picking up an LSS XL chassis for my Savage 10, wondering if others have used them and recommend them.
|
| My opinion, I had one on my Remington 700 AAC-SD .308 and did not like it. It was too heavy for what it was and just did not function for me. Personally I would go with a different chassis/ stock unless you really want a skeletonized chassis for your rig. My remy is my main hunting and plinking rifle and after shooting it I went back to my bedded Bell and Carlson |

Weight is a factor for me as well, stripped weight didn't seem terrible. What did you mean by it didn't function for you? |

The MDT is a fraction of the cost of the other chassis systems. I have a Remington 700 223 in one and it's a fine setup. Would you still consider it 'swingeable'? Would you take it out hunting as well as a day of busting steel long range? My current LR rifle weighs out at about 10 lbs with scope and factory accustock. With new stock I want to keep it 12-14 lbs max for maneuverability. |
|
Which chassis did you have on your Remington. Saying you owned an MDT is one thing, but give us more details as I can tell you that the MDT LSS is a very light chassis.

The XL wasn't offered when I made the purchase and I would have still gone with the LSS. I didn't need a longer rail as I wanted the chassis to be as light as possible. |

The decision for any stock / chassis would be to figure out are you going to be shooting off the bench and prone. Or you wanting to build something you can hump around the field all day while hunting ? While the MDT is a nice unit, it's not the same as a B&C for the field. Yes it's light but bulky for the average hunter. |

This one's used for critters, so we do carry it, but it's not a big game rifle I'll be carrying on a sling all day. Might be easiest to look at their website for the weight. |

Looked up the stats, LSS XL is 1.8 lbs. An additional 1.4 lbs for buttstock I want (XLR light tactical). Grip won't be too bad, overall it will be 1.5 lb lighter than a AI stock chassis. Like I said, they're not a boat anchor. Any particular reason you're not going with the MDT stock? |

I am not digging the plain accustock on the rifle so I'm probably going to order the MDT LSS XL. Just need a few drinks to work up the liquid courage. I'd promised myself I was going to go with a minimalist all purpose carry LR bolt rifle no heavier than 10 lbs scoped but after a few long range sessions with it I'm not altogether happy with the set up. I don't like traditional shaped stocks, I'd be willing to add a couple pounds for better ergonomics. |

Get an XLR Element. You can come back and thank me!! DK LOL, good advice. I just spent most of the afternoon looking into that one, emailing the company too. With the same stock I want and the grip, they will be nearly identical in weight but the XLR element will be $150 cheaper. I'm thinking about putting a David Tubbs grip on it too. |

You the man! I just bought an LSS XL for my Savage for $350 instead of $500. Quoted:

keep a watch on MDT's clearance section of their website. They usually have blems for $150-$200 off the regular price. You the man! I just bought an LSS XL for my Savage for $350 instead of $500. I ordered the same one for my savage just before new years for $300 suppose to be here tuesday. the wait has been killing me! |

I got my LSS-XL chassis today, installed it on my savage along with a XLR Light Tactical stock and a Tubb precision grip. With the same scope (Bushnell ERS 3-21x50, G2 ret) and Harris 6-9 bipod attached (I'm giving my atlas a break), without the stock pack (I normally have it jammed with crap, spare ear pro, calculator, some dope cards, allen wrenches, etc), the new rifle is only a tiny bit heavier than it was with the Savage factory accustock. Its still pretty well balanced, I'd guess around 14 lbs. And with the XLR stock, its completely modular for fit. I have no idea how to post pics, but its pretty badass.
FYI, the Savage rifle I used was a Savage 10 Predator Hunter Max 1, in 6.5 Creedmoor, this one. Its got a good contour, kind of a light Palma, fluted, 24". Pretty good shooter so far, hopefully it improves with time, as will I. |

I just received a LSS XL stock for my Savage Hog Hunter, and discovered my Magpul mags won't fit. I guess I'll be ordering some of MDTs after all. they take aics style mags The MDT mags work good for me. Thanks, I'm ordering two sand MDT mags and I think I'll get two AICS mags later on. |

I ordered a Cadex Core OT for my 10T 308. Already have a PRS stock. Does your PRS stock seem rear heavy or pretty balanced? |

I'm thinking of doing an identical gun in 556, but I'll have to shoot this first before I get another. I really like how it's come together so far. Jim |

Your Mossberg was the inspiration to build this rifle.

Bellow, my Mossberg MVP Patrol 5.56 and Remington 700 Tactical .308. I really like the LSS on the MVP. Totally changed the rifle. Thinking of another 308 but shorter barrel for 178 gr and use my 10T 308 for 208 gr pills. I like the 5R rifling so may get another 10T and have the barrel chopped. Waiting on the stealths coming out before deciding. |

Very nice!

Wanted something light, adjustable and a fine line with precision in a usable format. Not the hunt from the road over the hood or lift more weights bullshit. While I also have an Element, it's a tad heavier and I was trying to save weight every place I could. 8 pounds as seen. Used the sling point from the Sig MCX, hangs nicely with a Proctor WOTG sling. Stock Tikka .308 with barrel cut to 18" nothing else done. Going back today to test 41.8/41.9/42. The H4895 reduced loads are a hoot. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/mark5pt56/005_zpsoofkghcw.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/mark5pt56/009_zpssp9kxuui.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/mark5pt56/008_zps8f8e5yi7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/mark5pt56/006_zpsokorgxft.jpg |

You should try the new 178 XLD bullets. |

Thank you. Those are the new Hornady bullets? Yep. Been shooting 178's all last summer with great success using my Savage 10T 308, 5R, 24 inch barrel. Got ahold of the XLD bullets in 178, 200 and 208. Reloaded a batch of 178's and shot last week. Shoot very good. Came up with 43.9 gr of varget as the best results. Reload them like the A-Max (verified from hornady). |

Only comment is the VFG might get in the way should you try to rest the rifle on something like a door, wall, etc. I made a skid pad out of a small piece of rug and ziptied it to the stock. |
