Finally pulled the trigger on a freeze dryer  decided my first batch would be breakfast items to start for camping/fishing/road trips. I did 3 trays of eggs and 2 trays milk, they just finished minutes ago, and will put them in blender for easier use than seal them in mylar bags. next will be some meat and veggies to add to breakfast...than thinking of trying to empty freezer as much as I can to make room. We do alot of canning, but I think this is definitely going to change how we preserve garden items for future   |

At this point just chamber sealed all of it until I have more time to putz around with it. (Damn work always getting in the way of fun things) Probably should have just thrown them in mason jars, but the bags were laying on the counter 😏

That burger looks delicious and being that it's a lean meat I would imagine it would store for quite some time. We love freeze drying, but the one thing I wish I knew was how long meat will last. It's advertised as 25 years for most things, but for meat it seems 5 years is the common timeframe. But I know pressure canned meat lasts longer than 5 years, so I would think freeze dried meat would last a lot longer. Kind of a gamble when storing up a large emergency stash, I'd hate to find out that my tons of FD'd thin cut pork chops and turkey burger had all gone bad... |

So running it around the clock when you get it is a good idea so you get the most use from it and if the pump goes out you can replace it under warranty (assuming they're still offering a warranty on it). Plus it pays itself off quicker. They have new pumps that should be better though. |

I assumed any vacuum pump would work, but until I got into it I am not going to try to change up the pump version off the start. Especially at the prices they run! |
