| I have had confilicting advice about using the hay and manure from our barn on our garden. My girlfriend and I have 5 miniature sheep and 2 miniature donkeys. Every week we clean out the stahls and put the hay and manure in a big pile out in the field and ever so often I take the Kubota with the loader and mix it all up. Everything underneath is usually broken down pretty good. I've been told not to use it on my garden because of all the seeds I will be introducing to the garden. I know not to take anything that hasn't broken down out to the garden, but will spreading the stuff on the bottom of the pile that is broken down cause me to have a weed problem? |

That sounds like it oughta make a pretty "hot" pile, which should kill off most of the seeds. In any case, though, a good layer of mulch will control any grass/weeds that do come up. The combination of your mixed and rotted compost and mulch (done right) will do wondrous things for your garden. |
