Here's a teaser photo from my upcoming Be Ready! magazine article on how to build an EMCOMM box. I'm bringing experience from building communications packages for various government organizations and agencies and trying to apply it to ham radio packages distilled down to 2500 words. Just making sure that I wasn't missing something. Nope, you're not missing anything. The 7Ah batteries are just cheap and plentiful. I want to do a comparison of some of the high-performance motorsports batteries on the market these days where you can get 30Ah or more in a 3lb LiPo battery, but I've been having issues getting contacts at some of the companies for demo samples for test. |

I picked up a couple of these http://www.adorama.com/PA171900.html at the local Bass Pro on sale today.
I like the size. Not huge, but plenty of space. I'm contemplating one for a set of radios, and the other for cabling, power and support equipment. I don't even have the gear to put inside, and may just end up using one for junk storage. Thought I'd share the idea, and that these are on sale at Bass Pro shops for about the price in that link. Certainly less than after you add shipping. |

Hi guys
I'm trying to figure how to make my gobox project even lighter. It's available on eBay (important, since I live in another country) And it's available in smaller amperages, like the 4a one in the link, that I could use to protect the battery tender circuit. (I couldnt find the thermo magnetic ones in small amperages on eBay) (I'm not affiliated with any link) It would be possible or it's a no go? Cheers |

It would be possible or it's a no go? toggle handle breakers can also serve as master switches for fully disabling power etc when not using the equipment. on the other hand, "pop out" type breakers typically can not be manually actuated; most of them are flush until tripped, and then a push in resets them. ar-jedi |

I went with the push to reset. (I've got them in both the shack box and also my go box.)
 
Mainly because they come in amperage's from 3-30. Also they fit in my load center for my shack box. 
It would have been much easier to just go with fuses, but the last thing I wanted is to pop a fuse when I'm out in the field and not have a fuse. |

I'm super happy with how mine came out. I still need to learn how to use the Kenwood TM-V71A some. I'd like to build a smaller, more portable version next.

This is still alive? And so it begins.... This is very early stage, obviously. Lots of additions that, hopefully, will ride on the underside of the lid. I'll have to come up with a pack-style setup for a future uhf/vhf rig... Attached File I'll cut out the center for storage of the coax, wires, etc. I have another layer deep to pull out for the battery. I started with a smaller compartment for the mic and DE19 underneath the G90, but I'm not sure that I like the G90 riding so high in the case. I could cut the top foam into a couple of pieces and make a cover for the radio. I'm also putting in a powerpole distribution block, 2 12v-usb-c buck converters, a raspberry pi, ssd storage, and a travel wifi router. I'll probably also end up with a Meshtastic radio in there. The RPi will have at least 1 rtl-sdr, possibly 2. It will run the SDRs, an ATAK server, and a Meshtastic node when I'm done. I'll be arrying a laptop and/or a tablet to interface with the Pi through RDP or VNC, depending on what I need to do to pipe out sound. Hopefully it will run everything at once. If not, I'll add anther one or try upgrading to a Pi5 or small intel machine. We shall see.. A little different than many of the emcomm boxes on here, but maybe worth adding to this thread. |
