Like Lights Out (which IMO is a far better story than I could ever conceive) I left the ending open in order to write follow up tales if I so choose and write in some other (shorter) tales. I was working on another story idea not connected with Normal which started looking a lot like Cold Camp (again another fine story) and shelved it until I can get something better for me, more original and furthermore, not something that would be confused with anything out there already. I do have a few follow up stories to Normal which take place during the World War III timeline of the original story, but mainly just ideas and random thoughts I've thrown down on the computer than anything else. Far, far, far from anything that would resemble posting material. I mean, Normal took me two years to finally get done and it's really not finished yet with editing, corrections and whatnot. I'm not like most folks as I don't post a story until I get everything complete. Just a me thing. But I don't think it will take that long on follow up stories. The will be far shorter if I have my way. Again, thanks for the feedback for the story everyone. I appreciate it. Grand |

well thought out, well told.
The only negative to me is the seemingly de rigueur product placement, and gear obsession. While most here know what Black Hills ammo, and Leupold scopes are, many out there in readership land don't, and further more, don't care. |

Yeah, in looking back on the story, I started noticing how gadget and tech specs happy I got. It was one thing I did learn from this as the latest work (By Law) doesn't have as much in it. A little, but not too bad IMHO. Thanks for the feedback. |

I have not read the story yet, but I did just copy the whole thing into a word document.
Soon as I get a chance, I'll print it out. Came out to about 518 pages (at size 10 font). If it's ok with the author, and anyone would like an E-MAIL copy of this in word format, shoot me an i/m with your e-mail. Gene |

And to those who sent me an IM asking for a PDF version. I cannot access my IMs right now and have to log into here through a proxy server. Something wrong with the computer on my end I believe, but I don't know. Anyway, as soon as I can get this corrected, I'll be sending it out. |

No, nothing spooky and no surreal type with Smoke. Just one of those guys who was maybe a little down and out before the crash of society and then profitted by it in the aftermath. He saw an opportunity and jumped on it, but not in a bad way. I think in a major TEOTWAWKI situation, you will find people like that, ordinary people but both good and bad, that see the opportunity arise and take advantage of it. In his case, he was given the crown jewels so to speak.
But he also was one of those guys that just knew things. I think most of us have met that kind of person before. The one that just KNEW things you knew they shouldn't know and you couldn't figure out how they did know the things they knew. The kind that keeps their ears and eyes open and can read people really well. He's that kind of guy. No, I wasn't going to delve into the twilight zone with him. But I guess the closest person I could equate him with being would be Simon Baker from the Mentalist TV show, although I never saw it...don't even think it was on the air even...before writing him into the story. |

Plus I had to lead into the whole pregnancy thing and how much it affects Thomas later on. In re-reading it, it does kind of look like I left it hanging a bit, but nothing specifically major happened. Just another "normal" day. |
