Ravenwood is not Blackwater; both Halliburton and Blackwater have gotten mentions in previous episodes. Also, Ravenwood was well beyond the lawful line, and rather than supposedly being unaccountable, the actual situation is before the attacks the federal government was already moving to obtain enough evidence to take the whole company down for their actions. Don't blame the writers for your inability to pay attention to the plot.

I see, so if there's a coup attempt, then it must be left-wing propaganda, and the only acceptable plot is foreign invasion?  You do realize we're talking modern America here, right? Even with 23 cities nuked, we can still knock down a foreign invader with complete ease. I think they're trying to go with something at least somewhat believable; and a Red Dawn scenario where Russians come off airliners and a couple freighters and magically take over half the US is not believable. Right now the only thing that COULD realistically take down the USA is a threat from within. I suppose you think all the folks worrying about Clinton and Obama selling our country out and bringing us down from within are a bunch of liberal nuts too. Maybe Eisenhower was actually a closet liberal too, what with that warning against accumulation of influence by the military-industrial complex. Teddy Roosevelt certainly was a liberal with his wrongheaded trust-busting, wouldn't you agree? Because overly-influential corporations run by old white guys cannot possibly be counterproductive in any way. A healthy fear of government and anyone consolidating power is something America was founded on. It's something our founders believed very seriously and strongly in, and enshrined in our Constitution in hopes of keeping that kind of thing at bay as long as possible. It's something influential writers on both sides of the aisle have warned against repeatedly through the years. "Classic liberal story"... good grief. Also, Iran and North Korea were fall guys for the right-wing government to hide the truth? More like fall guys for a coup detat in the United States against the legitimate government, made by a power-hungry senator who looks and sounds a lot like John Edwards (yes, I've heard your argument from the left-wing; Jericho is actually a Republican brainwashing show to the lefties) and his lackeys. Just like Hitler, Stalin, and every other would-be dictator, that senator recognized and acted on the fact that it's easier to get people behind you if you give them a bogeyman. So, you have Iran and North Korea go down first, to give him legitimacy, and then the real US government goes down second, to give him his power. Again, don't blame the writers for your inability to pay attention to the plot.

No wonder this show does so dismally in the ratings: the extremists on both sides think it's being used to brainwash them. Fortunately, the rational among us take Jericho for what it is: an entertaining show about an alternative future, with all-American characters I can root for while they fight against Evil People. |

My inabililty to pay attention to the plot? I think you can't see the forest for the trees my friend. I've watched every single episode and I can't recall any mention of either Haliburton or Backwater. If you want to make those assertions feel free to give the episode and time mark where those names are mentioned.
If you view outside threats as nonexistent or trival and believe that the greatest threat to the USA is from within from large corporations and "unchecked" capitalism as the liberals do than there is nothing I can post here that will change your mind.
Did you watch "Red Dawn" or read a summary of it at Moveon.org? In the opening of the movie "Red Dawn" a long laundry list of events is listed that leads up to the invasion. It is more than possible that a foreign army could and would invade given the right circumstances.
Again from your point of view there is no threat to the USA outside our boarders and Russia and China even combined would not be a threat huh? I'm sure they'll be happy to know Americans think that as they continue to hold war games together. This is a liberal show where the threat is from conservatives. If the threat was liberals than there would be "Shared-Prosperity" and cetainly not a corporation. IF the threat in the show was liberals than the new government would seek to solve things through government and not through a corporation. If the threat was from liberals than there wouldn't be a PMC, which is the classic liberal Boggie Man. If you believe large corporations are evil and that government regulation and control over the private sector to better redistribute our wealth is conservative than you've got a messed up view of what it means to be a conservative. If corporations are bad to you and you see the only real threat as coming from American companies owned by shareholders than I can't help ya.
Yes, because we know that the liberals have been such advocates for military action against Iran and North Korea (sarcasm). I think it is obvious to anyone here that the liberals have repeatedly claimed that Bush and other Republicans were seeking war with Iran. Again those people see the threat s not from outside the USA (I guess they're all just peace loving folks that hold hands), but from within. As you said the only threat that could "realistically" take down the USA is from within. How many people here lay awake at night in fear of what Lockheed Martin will do to them? How many people here lay awake at night in fear of what terrorists or the thousands of nuclear weapons in foreign nations will do to them? Of course, though by your logic there are no threats there so we should be out joing with the moveon.org group that advocate the increased regulation of the defense industry...before they get out-of-hand. I mean it isn't like most those companies don't contain countless veterans and retired Generals. Defintely the type of people to overthrow their country.
I'm afraid the damage with you has been done my friend. Maybe there is hope though if you can have an open mind and take a look at what is going on around the world today. People live in the USA and they see what they know and what's close to them. They hear throughout their time in school that the USA is the source of all evil in the world and that the only threats are those from within and they start to believe it. I've been overseas though and I've seen and see today the threats and they sure as hell don't come from Blackwater a private company owned a by former active duty SEAL who is a strong advocate of the Second Amendment, but they do come from foreign interests that would love to be the only Super Power. Maybe it will take another 9/11 or something worse for people to open their eyes, but I guess then those folks will just see it as some conspiracy from within since "Right now the only thing that COULD realistically take down the USA is a threat from within."  God Help Us. |

You just used Red Dawn in a reference to what you perceive as reality. I'm not sure this can continue to be a serious conversation. Neither Red Dawn nor Jericho are documentaries. They are fun "what if" FICTIONAL STORIES which entertain the notion that Americans can embrace their nationalism and pride and overcome oppression, from outside and within. |
I get the feeling you skimmed my post and didn't actually read any of what I said, because you certainly weren't responding to it, and you certainly drew a lot of wild and ridiculous conclusions on my beliefs from it. Kind of explains how you can get freaked out by Jericho.  Anyway, feel free to keep hanging in a Jericho topic educating the sheeple on how bad the show is. EDIT: And if you seriously think Russia and China could successfully stage an invasion of the USA, you need to take a long, serious look at all three militaries and compare them. They can't. Period. Not without the balance of power changing significantly. How acknowledging that fact equates to my ignoring outside threats in your mind, however, is a logical leap I'm unable to understand. It makes no sense, but then, neither do your charges against Jericho. |

well the US state dept has 'strong armed' the Iraqi goverment to have Blackwater immune form prosecution for what they do over there so there is precedent for that. haveing the 'good' goverment be the 'bad' guys has been a plot device for scifi type show for decades, but with our current administration, that's not far off, so they ( the writers ) just take and idea/fealing people have to the extreme, and volia..Jericho |

All I was saying was that Hollywood has added their slant to it. Realistically, can you name a right wing show? Probably not. How about a left wing? I'm willing to bet you can think of at least a few. They keep making the president black, female or hispanic. Gotta challenge those traditional gender/ethnic roles. How about a male action hero? Doomsday, Resident Evil, Ultraviolet, Aeon Flux? Face it, Hollywood leans left and their beliefs spill over, whether intentionally or not, into their shows. Remember, our diversity is our strength means white, Christian males are evil. |

The Punisher, Spiderman, Doom, The Rundown, Iron Man, Superman, Rambo, Rocky, The Matrix movies, 300, Bourne movies, James Bond movies, the new Indiana Jones... again, just off the top of my head. All male action hero leads. I'm not familiar with Doomsday, but you do realize the other three movies you mentioned are based on videogames/comics with female leads, right? I don't think it's leftist influence to have a female character from one form of fiction still be female when moved to film.

As I said, there are far more left-wingers I know who are bothered by Jericho's supposed subliminal right-wing messages than vice versa. I don't see why one would have a problem with a female or black president, anyway. As I've said before in political topics, I don't care if the president is a little green asexual alien as long as it supports conservative policies, takes its job seriously, and I agree with its positions. I also don't see what's wrong with a strong black or female character. We've had members of both groups win our nation's highest awards in combat, give their lives in defense of our freedom and our way of life, or make similar strides and sacrifices in civilian life. If such characters exist in real life, what's the problem with their existing in fiction? |

They completely changed The Sum Of All Fears so people wouldn't think bad of muslims. I wasn't saying anyone was inferior. In fact, I would prefer Margaret Thatcher to pretty much any politician since Reagan. It's also nice that you point out mostly old movies, the ones I listed are from the last 3-4 years, showing a trend, that's all, try not to see too much misogyny there. My wife actually noticed this also. That's right, I'm hetero, but that doesn't mean I hate gays. All I ever said was that I dislike seeing the writers spin things toward their views. I'd just rather be entertained than preached at. |
When the show was cancelled after season 1 a number of the actors hired on for other jobs/shows. When it was brought back, they were unable to return due to their new commitments. |

Hawkins wife Darcy also got a car commercial after season 1. I think if we want the show to continue (personally I think it's over in three weeks) we need to let the shows sponsors know we appreciate the show. If they got bombed with as many emails as CBS got they'd push CBS for a season 3 to sponsor. |

So, I disagree. I think some folks are trying to make points, and yes, I can see that. But I don't think it's some mass effort to liberalize everybody.
I'll definitely agree there. Everything and everyone is scared to touch Muslims. But, given doing so lately incurs death threats from Muslims, and a sympathetic press jumps on it as "bigotry" if a Muslim is even SLIGHTLY portrayed the wrong way, what can you do. Even Sleeper Cell, which tried to address it by having a Muslim as a protagonist working against the radical Muslims got a ridiculous amount of heat. I too hate that the subject is taboo, but at the same time I can't blame folks for avoiding it too much considering the repercussions.

I agree, and I'm usually the first to criticize blatant biased bullshit like the plot of The Shooter (while Arfcom loves it for obvious reasons, it doesn't change that the plot is a liberal masturbation fest) or Lions for Lambs, etc. I just don't see that that is the case with Jericho. I think it's been handled even-handedly, and if anything, shows right-wing bias. It's just that the average Arfcommer is apparently so far to the right that even that qualifies as left-wing. |

Sorry, but these are old franchises that they know will put people in seats, even the Spiderman series is an old franchise as well. Again, I was pointing to a general trend. You didn't see this many female action leads in the past. Yes, Sigourney Weaver in Alien was 30 years ago, so they can be found, but they are becoming more plentiful. If I wanted to point out a problem, I'd point to how weak and hapless fathers have gotten in sitcoms, or how parents in general are painted as clueless in commercials aimed at children. I will acknowledge that they did a much better job keeping the appearance of fairness than with Jericho the with The Shooter and don't even bring up Lions for Lambs. Leni Riefenstahl couldn't have done better. |

Tonight's episode didn't grab me too much... Lots of sitting around bedsides and running around in a crowd. Hawkins rocks... And good to see them go through with killing Getz, rather than giving him community service like the original CBS script probably had. We want basass Stanley!

This was one of the best episodes yet. I can't wait for the next! It's amazing to me how many Neo Con's on this board there are. If you think Jericho has some wacko left wing message you seriously need to turn off the Sean Hannity for a few weeks and chill the hell out. Blindly assuming our government has, is and always will be wonderful is just as much of a disorder as liberalism. I guarantee those of you who think this show is some liberal propaganda rag will see it differently the second we end up with President Obama or Hitlery. |

Like I said in the GD discussion, the show finally has its legs. This is where the slower, character building pace of season 1 is paying off. I'm hopeful that we will see at least one more season. Oh yeah, almost forgot... Hawkins is The Man!!! |

Another ditto to the "great show" sentiments! While I get annoyed that every time there's a confrontation they all have different guns (what is it, a community grab-bag?), most of which are fudd-esque, it was SOOOO good to see Hawkins weilding an M14 at the end. And LOVED the end when Stanley claimed justice for his sister. Practically cheered in front of my 11 and 12 year-old boys. Felt a little bad about possibly sendind them the message that vigilanteism is okay, but I get SOOOO tired of seeing evil get away with their acts and go-on to commit more because the supposed "good" people don't have the balls to execute justice. Was very satisfying to see someone do what we all wanted them to do. My boys were more than a little annoyed at me because I was busy sharpening a new addition to the blade collection while watching. |
