I have been having trouble with an old Generac 2450 my father in law gave me.  Trying to get it in operation but it only produces approx. half of the 120v it should output.

Breakers and fuses seem to be good after checking for continuity.  Im not all that familiar with electrical components, but I can get by.  Is this cause by worn brushes?

Rectifier or some other electrical device?  Motor runs good, just need to make electricity.  Any input is appreciated.

half of the volts or half of the watts?

Half of the volts.  I've been reading on it and apparently it could be the bridge rectifier?  If one of the diodes is bad it doesn't feed dc voltage back into the generator to boost the voltage.

I'm not sure if I understand it entirely.

If its not rectified the you have low exitation voltage
But with 120 of 240 sounds like you lost half your bridge

Also
If you have two outputs wires check everything going to the "Dead" one

A bridge rectifier is inexpensive and can be made from 4 diodes or pick one up from R-S for a few bucks to test with.

Other than a tripped circuit breaker or bad fuse, that's all I can think of that would be easy to fix.

Thanks all.  I am going to try "re-exciting" the field now because the rectifier tested ok.
