Seeing doubleup's thread about fresh ears made me decide to try a farm I haven't hunted yet this year. I set up and started with a howl and then a few whines. About a minute in, I see something sitting on a hill looking at me. He starts walking, but I wasn't 100% certain it was a coyote. I couldn't see the ears, and it's legs looked awfully short. It looked more like a small poodle or other lap dog. The farmer does have a few small dogs that I do see sometimes near that area during the day. So I initially held off shooting. He kept coming and eventually walked behind a long line of hay bales. I wasn't sure which way he would go. I waited a few minutes and then decided to try some jack rabbit distress. A couple minutes later, I see him coming around the far end of the bales. At that point, I was certain it was a coyote. He stopped at about 140 yards and dropped at the shot. Nice solid thump.
