A modest breakfast. Steel cut oats . . . Steel cut oats - I have never tried them. What is the advantage? I see in the grocery store that they are a LOT more expensive than my standard Quaker Old Fashioned Oats. I like the texture better but other than that there's no "advantage." |

We did about half and half feed and scrap. Also had a bunch of old freezer foods to clean out and they were really handy when we were slaughtering chickens and disposal of the culled sick cornish and unproductive layers. Going to do 3 pigs this year because a friend wants one and is willing to pay half the food costs and collect scraps. |

I had considered this option for mine, but, according to a TV program about the Vegas casinos' buffet scraps being fed to hogs it made me think this was not a good idea. They spent alot of time sorting non-food and harmful items (plastic, metal, trash) from the 'food' in order to not kill their hogs via debris in the feed. How do you stop this from your source? TRG |
Pigs....donuts...so wrong!
Bought 8 Holstein Bull calves yesterday for $24, left them at the sale barn overnight for the Saturday sale sold them for $197  after their cut... $116  Anyway $92 flip for my pig purchase today. Picked up 6 weaners, 1 feeder, and one gilt today for $535,- my $92 for a total of $443.
12 pigs 30-325 +$2165 Feed - $45 Pigs -$443 20 pigs 15-335# +$1667 One goes for butcher next week. |

And the free 20 pigs. Gotcha. Wasn't sure exactly what your numbers meant. 1700 in profit, and 20 free hogs, not bad. FWIW, you should consider starting a thread that includes your barn, log operation, rabbits, vegetables, canning. You've come a long way from who you were a few years ago with your home improvements, bidness and free enterprise stuff. I think more people would be interested in seeing the whole picture from your perspective in your state. Especially with the job market in your area. TRG |
