How do you know which trigger your AR15 has, two stage match, two stage varmint or regular trigger if there is one?

Thanks.

Dont see how a pic of the trigger that's in the lower receiver would help, please elaborate. Any markings or physical characteristics?

The Lower is a RRA, trigger pull is 4.5lbs. There ia a lot of take-up in trigger before contact.

^^^^^^^ Not a RRA single stage - IMHO.

You say it is not an RRA single stage. Can it be a RRA two stage, is it an RRA triger or other manufacture.

Not a RRA single stage  - I assembled a lower with one last week. Not a RRA two stage (I have one), also not a Armalite two stage (my is +15 years old so new Armalite is a possibility). I should note that I'm not particulary impressed with either two stage I have.

Thank you for your reply. Steve M has said that the lower was shipped from RRA in 2009, he didn't say if it was complete with trigger group.

He needs to view your photo and identify the trigger group. Yours has "extra" spring under disconnector -

Looks something like an armalite adjustable 2 stage trigger, but I think rock river makes a similar one. So my vote is Rock River 2 stage.

My RRA lower with two stage purchased last October doen't look like that - perhaps RRA Mod would care to comment?

Then I say Armalite 2 stage trigger, as the OP's trigger clearly has the 3 position trigger weight pull adjustment.

Believe that is correct, Armalite P/N 10309050, 2 Stage NM - http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10309050&ReturnUrl=categories2.aspx?Category=dfc0f777-5c39-4edf-bb6b-90009c5adc2c

Sad to say miy Armalite 2 stage is of older design (but I still get 4.25 lb pull)

I want to thank everyone for their reply and help. The reason I'm trying to ID all the parts is that the seller I bought this from said it was a RRA Varmint / Match 223 with 20" heavy fluted match barrel and a factory 2 stage match trigger. Since it is not what he specified it as, it is going back. Needed to get all the if I could so that he can't deny it.

Can you tell the 2 stage trigger by its feel, any way to ID the upper?

Thanks.

Yes, by exactly what you describe. Therefore its a 2 stage.

navcwo4: Armalite makes a good of a trigger as RRA, perhaps better - not a reason to return it IMHO. You could sell that trigger group (to me? I need a trigger group for a build!) and simply put another in yourself. Easy peasy!

Following the PDF on ARmalite's website I adjusted mine to the point where there isn't much difference between it and my Giessele SSA-E

It's not just the trigger. The gun was described as an RRA varmint with a match BBLand a factory 2 stage trigger. The only thing that is RRA is the lower receiver shell. I wanted an RRA varmint and the seller misrepresented the gun. Don't like someone to sell me somrthing as one thing and it is something different, (fake, forgery, copy).

I can't tell from that photo angle.
best view fo rme would be broadside with the hammer in the forward (fired) position.

Steve, Broadside piv with hammer in fired position. I also noticed that the hammer is not smooth, the metal has a dimpled finish.

The pic is a little blury, hope it is OK.

The face of the hammer looks "off" (might just be th epicture quality and the bolt catch behind it) but the tail is telling me it's a two-stage trigger set. I can't say from what I see whether or not it is one of our two satge sets, but it is possible.  A 4.5-5 pound total trigger weight would be consistent with one of our standard-build two-stage set ups.
