| Thank you. We made these for video and photo taking. I don't practice nor advocate folks using a cell phone for viewing a reticle and aiming a firearm to shoot in this fashion. I know some do it though. I guess another question then arises; what is the official recoil rating of cell phones? |

Measurements I've taken on an AR-15 top 1000 g's at very high frequencies, driven mostly by the bolt carrier group cycling. 223 recoil alone (which is very little) is in the hundreds of g's. Given the price of phones these days, I wouldn't think about mounting one on a rifle. |

You can certainly dampen out vibrations in the mount (and if I was designing one specifically to mount a phone on a rifle, you can be sure I'd do exactly that), but I don't believe this was designed with that specific application in mind. Thanks Rocketman and don't worry about derailing the thread, nor 35Remington. It's our own Industry forum and a valid discussion. 
As I mentioned we know some folks have used a cell phone directly behind a scope to shoot and record. My main concern is using a "cell phone reticle" that your viewing from your phone and not from the device itself. I inherently think this is not safe and and a practice I do not encourage nor does our staff. (I know we're very conservative around here even when we give TRUE ID distances with thermal, but safety is paramount) As for recoil testing, dunno too much about that as we have not completed testing on either cell phones, nor this adapter. Good discussion either way and feel free to start another thread if so desired, I want to hear the debate among others about using a "cell phone reticle".

I respect that fact that the TNVC/TeleVue adapter was not designed for rifle-scope-mounted uses, and is intended as a viewing device and one for photography. No problems there.
On the general topic of scope-mounting a video camera, there are many dead animals on YouTube who can attest to the fact that nothing significant occurs in the realm of POI shift, or phone destruction. |
