A S&W Devel clone would be great. It actually is a decent carry gun for modern use. So you would get the retro crowd & people just looking for a new carry gun. The real Devel guns are starting at $2500, so I would think those with a real Devel might still buy a shooter to go with it. There are existing magazines and Mecgar has the capacity to make them. I'm sure you have already considered this project, but hopefully others will chime in on this. I recently have been trying to fill in the older guns I couldn't afford when I was younger. I picked up a Detonics 1911 recently and next on the 1980's list is a Devel S&W 9mm. Those are going for a pretty penny. I mainly want a shooter, not a safe queen. I would gladly take a clone or near clone. |
| The 669, 6906, 3913 and the CS9 pretty much replaced the niche that the devel and ASP guns filled. Factory guns at a fraction of the price. A couple of years ago I saw a ASP at our range and something broke off, maybe the trigger guard and I remember thinking that’s gonna be expensive to fix. |

I have a 6906 in the safe and have owned a 3913 in the past. I paid more for my used 6906 than I paid for my new SDS 1911. So there is a decent demand for the S&W metal framed guns. They are decent carry guns as well. I figured with the 1911 clone guns (Raider & MAC MEUSOC) & Hipower clones were being made. Maybe a S&W Devel clone might be an option. If they can make a1911/Hipower and sell it for $500-600, A $600 Developer clone isn't A crazy thought. Maybe a Detonics clone as they already make 1911s. |
