Soooo.... I bought another complete PA10 lower.... is has a longer carbine buffer tube, a regular AR15 length buffer, and a longer buffer spring then my first PA10 lower. I haven't measured them yet... but is sure looks like a Armalite .308 length buffer system.

So... prior to any purchasing of buffer parts, I strongly suggest you post photos of what actually came with your rifle.

The "new" longer length buffer tube is marked "PA10" with the PSA "Logo" as well ... the buffer is AR15 length ( no markings ) as hand compared to a spare AR15 carbine buffer I have laying around.

Here are some side by side photos for comparison...the "New" sized buffer system is on the left.

The older "DPMS" style buffer systems is on the right.

I am now wondering how many times the different ones have been used... and how many times it may have caused mayhem and confusion.

That was one of reasons I didn’t purchase a complete lower. Read that the buffer/tube/etc. was a potential problem area and that their tube was a proprietary length. Ended up going with Aero 308 carbine buffer kit.

I am going to have to say... this is not helping confidence in what anyone is receiving from PSA.

Frankly, the original is a DPMS carbine buffer length and worked fine ( but to light IMHO )

Lol... now it is 2 possible lengths.

So perhaps the change was to allow a heavier buffer weight.

Here are the measured weights and lengths between the "New" and "Older" versions.

Again, remember these parts do not interchange... unless you the complete buffer system ( DPMS v. Armalite )

New / Armalite / Longer.......................... Older / DPMS / Shorter

Supplied OEM PSA buffer ............ ( Both are way to light IMHO, they should be min. 5.4oz )

.....3.8oz / OAL 3.260"...................................3.8oz / OAL 2.5"

Supplied OEM PSA Buffer Tube......

.....5.0oz / OAL 7 7/8" ..................................5.0oz / OAL 7 1/4"

Supplied OEM PSA Buffer Spring.....

......1.5oz / OAL 11 3/8" / 29coils..................1.5oz / OAL 10 5/8" / 28coils

Difference between the two, in the fully compressed spring / buffer / BCG bottomed out in the buffer tubes using the supplied parts.... the "New" Buffer system is 3/32 longer and will not compress as short as the old one.... so if you are having Bolt catch issues... this is possibly why.

The depth of the "New" buffer tube is 7 11/16"

Again the "New" buffer system length is a better choice IMHO , allowing for more common parts and a heavier buffer weight....

However.... changing mid-stream is bound to confuse the subject.

Just when they had figured it all out
Reading your threads convinced me in getting a PA-10. Got one of the 18" Midlength Melonite FSP uppers they had on sale a bit back.
Got the PA-10 Lower a bit back (November 2017) also and tossed it in the safe. Didn't really pay that much attention to it.

After reading this ... Just pulled it out and also got the newer longer receiver extension, longer buffer spring, and, of course, the shorter (2.5" PA-10) buffer
If they take the longer buffer is Ok. I've got plenty of heavier normal AR ones to put in it.
Just curious if I got the wrong one or you got the wrong one. I can see I probably got the wrong one. But like you said, I think I like the longer RE to put heavier buffers in it.
It'll probably be spring until I can get around to playing with it anyway. Don't even have any magazines or ammo for it yet.
I just put them together and they lock up tight together.

I'm sure they'll get it figured out, hopefully before spring

Keep up the nice work on your threads bfoosh06!

Just in case you didn't know ( or anyone else )

The reason they don't interchange is.... the lengths ... too short a buffer in the longer tube, and your BCG will pound into the lower receiver extension area, where the buffer tube attaches . ( like yours )

To long a buffer in the shorter tube, and you will have complete cycling problems... since the BCG cannot retract far enough to eject / lock back / pull the next cartridge from the mag.

Your example is exactly why I posted this..... thank you for sharing.

Wrong buffer in the longer buffer system tube.

If you separate the lower and upper.... remove the BCG from the upper... and then manually insert the BCG down the buffer tube as far as it will go ( with the to short buffer ) you will see it can wreck havoc.

Now try it with the correct length buffer...

I still love my PSA's.... but be sure to double check stuff.

A basic double check on parts and tight nuts bolts etc... is a good idea.

I figured that. No worries! I'll probably take an H - H3 with me when I take it to try it out. Probably be a bit though.
Seems everyone is saying they are over-gassed. No biggie. Probably not going to get a lot of use anyway, just wanted one.
No, I have no complaints with PSA. Things like this happen.
I understand and not worth sending it back to replace when probably not going to use the one they send anyway.
Have one or two ... or more PSA's and all run like champs.
This is the first time I've had an issue and it's not really an issue in my book.
Just as long as they realize this is happening so they can take care of others before it gets out of control.

Thanks Again!

Yea... they are over gassed, recoil isn't an issue for me... parts longevity is. The BCG gets bucked pretty hard... and that means the hammer and hammer pins take a beating as well as most everything else....Adding the Adj. GB softens that up a lot... even the spent brass comes out in better shape.

Adding an Adjustable GB toned everything down QUITE a bit... making it easier for a follow-up shot, in the field and off the bench. Mine hardly moves on the bench with its Adjust. GB , heavy 9.3oz .308 Rifle buffer and Tubbs .308 Flatwire recoil spring.

Seriously, the Adj. GB changed the recoil impulse from Linda Blair ( In the Exorcist ) to Winnie the Pooh ... ( Oh Bother )

Consider treating yourself to a gift.... you won't be sorry.
