MagPul/Dr. Drake-
Two questions, one, was there an inline production change to the mounting screw? My first MBUS has an allen bolt and my new one has a slot head. Second, what was the logic for the small aperture being the default, what I mean is when folded you are forced to have the small aperture up when you erect the sight. Thanx, Jeff |

Thanx, Jeff Although i'm not "MagPul/Dr. Drake"... Don't know about Q1, but as for Q2: The small aperture is standard for daytime shooting, and the large is for nighttime shooting, i think the logic is based on military applications. When I was in the Army, the standard on my M16 was the small aperture, and it was only changed for night ops. It makes sense to me, as i think the majority of ppl shoot during the day. I have been wrong before. I'm sure someone with more knowledge that I will be along shortly with more insight. Hope this helps... |
| I noticed my new MBUS has the slotted screw as well compared to the allen that my first one has. I prefer the slotted because it is MUCH easier to find a flat head screw driver than an allen in an emergency. Not that you should need to but its one less extra tool needed. |

I think from another thread on this said that the slotted bolt was picked because to many people, aka US, were over torqueing the bolt and breaking the rear sight platics (polymer), so Magpul changed it because it is harder to over torque a flat head than a allen head. I didnt like the change but it makes sense and my MBUS are a 50/50 split on allens and flats, and after thinking about this for an entire minute I decided it really didnt matter, I dont plan on taking them off, and I know how you use a flat head driver so I didnt f-it up like some people here complain they did.
Plus if your MBUS fails in the field (EXTREMELY UNLIKELY) I doubt that you will care to change it out Quickly, nor will you be carrying a spare BUIS, if you were and it was better (ie steel or AL) then you should have run that if you were afraid of failure. As for me I trust the polymer, and with locktite and a large flat head driver I know my install is solid. |

Flip the small aperture out and stow the sight that way. Maybe, I'm missing something, but if you select the large apeture the sight will not collaspe and latch. |

I can verify. Mine works the same way as beavo is saying. I can open and close the site without issue using the large or small aperture. Thanks, for the pics, I was apparently confused in my brain! It's hell to be old... I think I was confusing it with my Troy BUIS. Duh!! |
