I spent 5 years in the Marine Corps and am VERY used to cleaning M16 style rifles. I bought a 16in upper from you guys at a gunshow in Va a little while back. I have not had the time to do any shooting with it until this last weekend. Upon getting home to clean it I noticed that the tip barrel is not what I remember.
In the USMC we were constantly attempting to make the silver just inside the muzzel brake shine using qtips. When I went to do this on this new upper, I found that there was no silver part and it was infact very rough looking and the same color as the rest of the barrel. What is the deal with this? Am I wrong to expect to see that on a civilian rifle? |

If it is a non-chrome lined barrel it will not have the silver in the chamber or at the muzzle, for the entire barrel is made from 414o chrome moly steel. The military use barrels that are chrome lined, and the silver on the tip of the barrel and in the chamber area is chrome overspray. We offer both chrome lined and non-chrome lined versions of most of our standard barrel configurations.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks, Jesse |
