The fixed front sight 6940 upper receivers were over runs from Colts contract with the DOE when the 6940 first went into production. DOE did not like the non-locking front sight that was in the original design and requested that a fixed front sight be used. Here is mine which came in the box. | So are all the fixed FSB monolithic uppers the DOE leftovers? The OP has a 16” barrel that I haven’t seen before, but the one Minuteman posted is a 14.5”. A few years back I found a police dept selling the 14.5”s as surplus, and snagged 2 or 3. I knew they weren’t exactly common, but not that rare. I also think I’ve seen on here that some of the 14.5”s had a SOCOM profile barrel. All of mine are the Govt profile, so who knows. |
