Could you give a quick summary of what kind of function and durability testing RRA has done with the 458? Thanks Rod |

Summary: Shot it, shot it some more, shot it some more, and further shot it. It isn't a new round or new technology...just making something that had previously been made as one-offs with custom fitted parts for individual builds into a more mass-producable product. The round has been in use for approximately six years, with Corbon loads available for approximatelt that same length of time. Almost all of the weapons custom-built for the 458 SOCOM cartridge, to date, have been on AR-style platforms. I've been shooting one for about five years (one Tony made for me), another that Marty built for me approximately two years ago,and another that I took off Marty's hands a couple months ago. Marty has had shooters put 2000rds through in a month without incident. I've put hundreds through in anafternoon. At the PreSHOT 2006 Range day we put almost a thousnd rounds through one in a little over five hours with the only maintenance required being a spray of G96 though the ejection port (with the bolt back) to keep it lubed, and by the end of that five hours, the forearm was too hot to hold and we fired the last few mags holding on to the front of the mag well, and still no hiccups. We have continued to shoot the test bed uppers/rifles and they continue to hold up just fine. Steve/RRA |
