Rollmarks are mostly phased out. You will have to find a 2017 production carbine probably if you are insistent on a rollmark.

Picked up one today myself.

'C' stamped keyhole upper

unmarked BCG with MPC bolt, no white paint dot

01/18 barrel with CAGE code, stock with CAGE code

Non-F FSB.

I bought this one for the lower and am parting out the upper, but if these stay regular production, I will likely pick up a second to leave as-is.

taken from current GB auction listings. my lower is also CR018xxx range and is rolled, not engraved.

total bummer if this is the norm going forward, the text looks off to me. QR code also got huge as someone else mentioned

not sure if someone mentioned i here or i read somewhere else, but MIL marked lowers do not have the period after MM

Been looking online tonight to buy a SOCOM but identifying whether you are getting a rollmark or laser engraved is pretty much impossible it seems. ??

I would say that most SOCOMs listed on the interwebs for sale would be engraved if they are coming from Colt from this recent batch.   A rollmarked SOCOM just became that much more desirable and those who have it will know it.....

Seems you will have to see a pic of the actual receiver to tell.  The small QR code will probably be the most discernible identifier with crappy on-line pics.  Good luck...i'm in the same boat.

I have a CR012xxx (May or early June 2018) and it’s engraved (small qr).
Supposedly Colt was having issues with light strikes on the rollmarks and went with engraving until they remedied the issue.

There were some very light strikes on the left side of some rifles.  Someone on here had posted a picture of the one he got like that.  I wouldn’t have been happy with the way that one looked.  I was a little worried about what I was going to get when I got mine.  Left is a little light on it but acceptable.

I’m looking at posts in the other thread that had 2018’s in it and everyone is using the word rollmark.  All the photos have the period after the mm and other than the qr being small the (engraving?) rollmark looks the same as what’s on this page.

Yes like mentioned above, the top one is full engraved and the bottom is stamped(for the most part).

You have a stamped one and it has a very slight light strike on the left side.  Mine looks about like that. Probably wouldn’t even had been noticeable had there not been one a lot worse than that posted.

So it seems someone mentioned that some equipment might have been down and that’s why we are seeing engravings vs stamped on these SOCOMs.  Is that correct or has Colt gone completely to engravings on all new production?

Was it ever confirmed if the "M4 Commando" roll-marked lowers that were from the Italian market were seconds?  All the units that i've seen including mine have light-strike roll-marks.

Not M4A1, std M4 Carbine. And a steal when Brownells blew them out.

Even if they were M4A1, I'd not worry. Not a collector. To each their own though.

Unsure, but I do not believe so. The Colt M4 Carbine lowers from Brownells were not blems/seconds as many thought. Light markings were from a worn die.

Engraved now, so nodody can bitch about light markings, now they can bitch about engraved lowers. (Which look like shit, IMO. )

I bought this with the intent of using the lower for a clone build, but so far I have not been able to split it up. Now thinking I will keep it complete and as is, and just enjoy it. Feels simple and just right, only addition being the comp m2.

Likely will try and source a 2nd rolled lower to SBR though.

I bought a take-off BCG off Gun Broker that supposedly came from a SOCOM rifle. The carrier looks normal with a dot matrix "C" but the bolt is marked "MPC2". Any one else seen this? The lugs on the bolt and the area around the ejector also noticeably thinner than other colt bolts I pulled to compare. I uploaded pictures with the new bolt on the left, one I pulled from a rifle on the right.

3/9/2019 9:54:31 AM EDT
[#40]
Are the lugs actually thinner or does it just look like it due to the angled edges on the front of the lugs?

That's my take on it -- it just appears thinner due to the angled edges on the lugs.

Question: with all of the changes that people are reporting, has anyone noticed any variance in the small parts?
3/9/2019 1:43:11 PM EDT
[#42]
The lugs on the new bolt appear thinner, but if the even if it is due to the rounded edges, the overall thickness of the bolt head (easy to see around the extractor) is definitely thinner. The MPC2 also looks engraved, compared to the penciled "MPC" on my other Colt bolts.

Indeed.

With all of the other reported changes, I have been wondering if there has been any variance in the small parts.

Someone posted their new rifle and it had a standard Schmid Tool safety selector and not the "no tick" selector that Colt typically uses. I never got an answer as to whether it came from the factory that way or if he changed it out.
