Steve, any suggestions about what carry handles and removable front sights (if any) might fit the LAR-8A4 (since your stuff isn't available yet)?
Just wondering... (And if I missed your earlier answer to this question, I apologize for asking it again). Forrest |

Obviously, standard AR-15 carry handles, even if they worked, would look pretty crappy since the LAR-8 receiver is appreciably longer.
Since Rock River Arms is not yet supplying carry handles and detachable front sights, I was really asking Steve whether any of the other manufacturers AR-10 type sights would work (for example, the Armalite AR-10T detachable carry handle or the DPMS .308 AR detachable carry handle). I assume that the Bushmaster BAR-10 handle would work if you could still find one, but I'm just guessing about that too. Also, what detachable front sights will be the correct height to work with the AR-10 type carry handles? Just sayin'... Forrest |

Please do, Bro.
I took a dial caliper to my LAR-8 "Flat Top" The front gas block, where you mount a front fold-down sight, is .250 inch LOWER than the main pic rail on the top receiver. I have gotten "NO-won't fit" from a bunch of supplier. My email, as of yet, to RRA is unanswered. |

Chirp... Chirp... Forrest Forrest, i have spoken with RRA about this. I actually have 2pc of the LAR-8 Stand Alone Rear Sights. The carry handle and the Dominator mounts are ready will be avaliable here shortly (January). They will be pictured (with prices) in the January catalog. Of course, you can use AR-15 rear sights. You can still zero and adjust, you just cannot trust the elevation dial. On the front sight, per RRA, they have designed the rail gas block to be compatible with the AR-15 detachable fronts. Since you leave it alone post zero, it will not be an issue. You can shoot me an IM and we can discuss who, when, where I got the above. 8654, OUT. |

I'll be looking for the CH and front sights in their catalog (which I haven't seen yet but which we should be getting in any time now at the shop). Then again, the LAR-8 (LAR-10) was pictured (with prices) in the 2006 catalog, if you catch my drift... Thanks for the info... Forrest |

Forrest By the way, I should mention that we're almost halfway through January (2010) and the detachable carry handle and detachable front sight for the LAR-8A4 are not yet up on RRA's website (unless they're hidden really well). Just sayin'... I really do hope to see the stuff soon. Forrest |

In the meantime, on my 16" A4, I'm using an AR-10 carry handle I bought on EE, and for the time being, a cheapo UTG front sight (wasn't sure what type of sight (15 vs 10) would fit at the time, so I didn't feel like spending on a 'brand name' item up-front). With the exception of a replacement front at some point, I'll likely stick with this. Sure, it'd be nice to have actual RRA stuff... but not worth the added wait and expense to me. |

I assume that the RRA LAR-8 carry handle will be, essentially, a direct copy of the one Bushmaster sold for the BAR-10. From the pictures in the 2005 V.! Bushmaster catalog (for example), this CH looks quite nice and has that slight droop at the front that is characteristic of the pictures of the LAR-8A2 receiver with the integral carry handle. The BAR-10 unit also has the downward extension under the sight that fits the hole in the top of the rail at the rear of the receiver. The RRA LAR-8 receiver rail also has this hole (filled with e bolt). I'd really like a couple of these CH units.
Then, again, we all know what assumptions are like... Then again, again, I certainly haven't ever seen a LAR-8A2 either... And I agree that it's better not to advertise before you can deliver. I just have a problem figuring out what the problem is with supplying a unit that was already in production (but there goes that assumption again that the BAR-10 and LAR-8 carry handles are (will be) the same... Hey Forrest, I just got my LAR-8 detachable handle for my midlength. Fit and finish are great. So you should be getting yours shortly. Kingwolf Thanks for the update... Mine (A2 DCH) came in on Tueday, but I haven't had time to mention it until now. A couple of comments... First, as you mention, the quality of manufacture of the unit is very good. Then again, for something retailing for $175 (for a total cost pushing $200 with sales tax in most States), the quality should be high. The finish of the DCH is very even, but is considerably lighter (more gray) than the LAR-8 receiver. That's not something that concerns me, but it might bother some... The small, painted RRA logo on the one that I received was poorly applied, with the right side smeared. Again, that doesn't bother me, but it should be better on something costing this much... What bothers me the most (but still something somewhat minor) is that this unit just sits on top of the rail with 'clamps' at the front and rear. It's a very secure method of attachment, but it leaves most of the length of the DCH open to the sides so that you can see right through the rail slots from side to side. Most DCHs have a piece along the side that covers the slots, or have one side of the DCH that extends low enough to prevent seeing through the slots from side to side. Personally, I think that seeing through the rail makes this unit much less attractive on the rifle. Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... Forrest |
