Okay here are some more groups, while I am pleased with the performance of the Prime and Hornady this other stuff was no good. It was a rainy day, about 80 degrees, water everywhere on the range. I was shooting from a concrete bench due to several inches of water on the ground surrounding. I was not super comfy and I think it shows in the group sizes....
ETA: I ranged a couple rocks out to approx 600 and back in, I was able to hit anything with ease by just bracketing the target. I dont have exact MV or any data yet. For just messing around I was impressed. Prime- me with a flier @#$&W%^

Looking at my bench it appears for bullets I have:
Berger 140 hybrid target Hornady 140 bthp SMK 142 TMK 130 For powder I have: Varget 4831sc IMR 4350 IMR 4320 IMR 4227 8208 XBR Primers will be GM210M Brass I have is Lapua new and once fired as well as once fired Hornady. One of the coolest ways to find nodes is shooting at an intermediate distance while looking for OCW and seeing the nodes group together. It is really satisfying when the velocities on the Labradar back up what you see. Whatever load I do I will attempt to capture the process on camera. |

I just noticed that my second Vortex Gen II HD 4.5-27x56 shipped yesterday! It took longer than the first (three week backorder) but maybe it will arrive for the weekend so I can get both the 260 bolt and L260 outfitted with the same optic.

Looks like my .260 is getting close to being in hand so I may be able to join the load development game soon, except right now I'm going back and forth w/ LT over getting the standard capacity mags (I really hate that most don't understand the dumb ass laws Maryland has)... Anyways, the range I shoot at has a 200 yd rifle, but, the way the ground level slopes off where the shooting line is I don't think I'll be able to crono anything w/ my optical pickup type  looks like I need a labradar but that may have to wait till late September. For now I'll be able to get speeds while shooting at 100 yd though

RCBS Reducing Sleeve You can also change the speeds in the Chargemaster to get faster throws: Speed Up Your Chargemaster I calibrate the scale before every use. I also know the supplied pan (in my case) weighs 152.2 grains. I throw a charge, take it off the scale, see that the scale returns to -152.2g and then I place it back on the scale one more time to check weight. If it's good, I place it in the cartridge and replace the pan, which should then go back to 0.00. Pro-tip of the day: Just leave your chargemaster on 100% of the time. It needs to stay "warm" to remain consistent. I don't ever recalibrate. I do check the pan weight as D3 mentioned, but if you leave the machines on, and keep them away from electrical interference, they will remain accurate. Also keep them away from AC vents or any type of moving airflow.
I run two, sometimes three chargemasters at a time. SD's consistently under 10 for all my bulk-loaded ammo. |
