Hornady 130 ELD match ammo
6.5 V.A.P.R suppressor, 18" .260 barrel
2640 FPS, little disapointed in the stdev as it was 19.6 over 10 shots.  Maybe with seasoning the barrel will get more consistent?  The Hornady 140 ELD match out of my LRI 6.5 is around 8 stdev.

First 20 some rounds through the barrel, generally the groups tightened up, mostly shooter error.  I had to pause for 10-15 minutes and drive to the shop to get the chrono and then came back and finished the 3rd string.  Shot a flier, but by the 4th and 5th group it was shooting bugholes.    I'll take it out to 1,100 on steel here shortly.
Pretty impressed.

I have my .260 barrel and muzzle device now, now I need to decide what chassis I'm gonna put it in... The OBR (a little concerned how much gas tube will be exposed), the FDE, the tAR, or just keep it swappable on the tOBR... was really hoping to be able to throw my 14.5 in one of the tAR's but the barrel nut won't fit, and even it it did the handguad is about .25" too long to be able to mount my can on it.

As I was contemplating the meaning of life last evening, and why my truck is still in the shop (but under warranty ), I thought I'd work loads at 41.8 and 42.2 to see what happens.  There's a defensive pistol at the local range today and tomorrow (which closes the range this afternoon and tomorrow morning) so I may work up loads and head out tomorrow afternoon.

@nihilsum

Has it been your experience that a round with a low SD and low vertical dispersion at 100 tends to perform well out past 100?  I'd like to work up a round for the bolt gun I can rely upon out to 1000, and do the same with the LaRue.

How many rounds do you load and test?   I was thinking the only true way to gauge dispersion would be to shoot 10 round groups, but at 100 that won't tell me much.

Lastly, I'm going to play with jump in the bolt gun to see if that may lessen both SD and dispersion.  I'll go back to the comparator and take some readings and then play with seating depth a bit.  Have you found that to be helpful with a bolt gun?

I wasn't going to do the same with the LaRue but I was going to load closer to COAL.

TIA.

I put the non-ladder test MVs from yesterday's range trip into the spreadsheet.  I may add another column showing the averages over several range trips so the data is available in one reference.

Generally, yes.

I'm not the most confident in reading a single three round group, so I'll load 10 at a couple charges near the center of where I think I found a node and shoot a few more to confirm or deny what I thought I saw. If SD/velocity/vertical dispersion is consistent, I'll stick with it and mess with other factors.

On seating depth, some bullets, mostly tangent ogives- like Sierra Match kings and Nosler CCs. They have shot more or less the same for me at whatever reasonable depth I put them.

Secant ogive bullets have not been as forgiving for me and adjusting seating depth has helped in the limited use I have with them.

I planned on putting my 260 barrel in my OBR.

In the end, laziness got the better of me, and I put it in my FDE.

Didn't do any serious shooting with it, mainly because I was doing other stuff this morning, and now it's hot and windy.

Anyway, shot all rounds suppressed.  Everything ejected at 2-3:00, from all 3 rifles, all ammo today was Prime.

L to R, 7.62 OBR, FDE .260, Wilson Recon Tactical 6.5 CM.

The Tacoma is finally out of the shop.  Apparently the LEDs I installed replacing the light bulbs in the third stop light 3 years ago created a feedback loop that shorted out the fuse and brake light switch. I thought electricity traveled at the speed of light, but apparently it took three years for this low voltage to travel ten feet.    The Toyota guys were great and covered it under warranty even though they spent a lot of time tracing wires to find the issue.  The balance in the universe is restored and I can take the truck to the range again!  Clearly I will now shoot better.

As a comment on what nihilsum posted about concentricity and the differing reloading presses and their claims, the Forster Co-Ax "floats" the casing and the die to help keep the neck/bullet concentric.

The shell holder centers the casing but the plate floats and can move left to right to meet the die.

The die can move in and out in the channel in order to line up the casing/bullet during the process. The movements are minuet. but enough to line up the components.

I loaded up 40 rounds to try with the bolt gun tomorrow.  Ten rounds at 41.7, ten at 41.8, ten at 41.9 and 10 at 42.2.  I had five virgin Lapuas left over so I'm going to load them with the 147 ELD-Ms to see how they may fly.  Once I get the bolt settled I'll start on the LaRue.  I received two additional bushings from Whidden today so I have .287, .288 and .289 to play with neck tension.

I also have to start working on a proper data book, my legal pad is full.

Finally got to shoot the 260. Sorry for the poor iPhone pic but you get the idea.  Used Hornady Match  EDL with Surefire can.  Consistently shot 0.6-1.0 MOA.  This was only at 100 yards, next time I'll take it to 300-600 yards.

Any recs on a projectile to start with for loads?  I have Lapua brass, H4350 powder.  Thanks.

I may eventually work some Bergers at 2450, but I'm going to start with the ELDMs in the 2750-2775fps range.  The Hornadys seem to be shooting very well across several people's tOBRs.

My ladder test still provided some useful info.  I know the LaRue shoots well with factory Hornady ELDMs (suppressed) that produced average speeds of 2761 and 2767.  The ladder test showed 41.8grs of H4350 at 2749, 42grs at 2771 and 42.2 at 2768. I think I'll work some loads in the 41.9 to 42.2 and see what sort of MVs/SDs/ESs I'm getting in conjunction with groupings.  I won't be doing that this week so if you beat me to it, we can work off that and I can try some differing loads if needed.

Quick range report.

Took it to 300 today with Hornady ELDM 130.   Surprised that it was only 0.8 mil of adjustment.  Shot 0.269 at 300.  At 200 was about 1.5in so is consistent.   This was with Surefire can.  It seems to group better with it and is much more pleasurable to shoot with the can.  I have a break on it and it will make your ears ring if you don't double hear Pro.

I was too lazy to crono and put data into ballistics calc so it took a few rounds to figure it out.  I tried preloaded data from 130 AMAX 6.5 Creed in the calculator and it was WAY off.  (0.5 mil).

Odd thing:  I kept hearing some rattling in my car.  Figured out the gas tube is ever so slightly moving where it enters the rifle and rattles when the rifle is moved.  Kinda annoying.  Anyone have an idea for a quick fix?

Today's update begins with a congratulations to the Wood Brothers #21 Team and Ryan Blaney for winning at Pocono!  I've been a Wood Brothers fan for years and they've had a dry spell since Bayne won Daytona, but with Blaney they could be climbing that mountain!

As an update on temperature sensitivity, it was a sunny with temps in the mid 90s.  I decided to leave a piece of Prime out in the sun to see how quickly the round heated.  The round was at 96 degrees when I pulled it out and I left it in direct sun for about 10 minutes (as long as it took to go to 100, check targets and walk back).  When I checked it again, it was 138*!  I took the round out of the sun and let it sit for 10 minutes, then I fired it and it clocked at 3027!  A bit higher than the listed 2900fps (I don't think I'll be doing that again)!

I took some loads out to try and get the M5 settled so I can move on to the Larue.  It was hot!  Mid 90's and direct sun with little wind.  The range was closed until 1300 for a defensive pistol class so I timed it to arrive as the class ended.  I actually thought it would be empty but people started showing up right as the range opened.  Standard range and rifle pics.

First group of the day was clean, cold bore plus 4 of the factory Hornady 130gr ELDms.

Then I shot the handloads starting with the 42.2, then the 41.7, 41.8 and then 41.9.  I loaded these to 2.730 and had some issues with the bolt being tight as if I was driving the round into the lands so instead of firing 10 rounds, I fired 5 and will reseat the rounds a few thousandths lower.

I then fired some factory rounds to check elevation and windage from zero, suppressed with the SOCOM 7.62-RC.

I closed out shooting some factory rounds unsuppressed.

Here are the MVs from today's shooting:

I wouldn't think your touching the lands at 2.730, I would think you could get to 2.85 with that bullet and still be jumping.  That is very short for a bolt gun, is this virgin Lapua or once fired? Have you taken any measurements to see where that bullet is touching the rifling? Fwiw I load 140 hybrids in my bolt gun to 2.90 and that is a 2 thousandths jump in my factory chambered Tikka.

So do i need to order up some new extensions for the rifles currently running rat stocks or am i good to go with the new gen 3 prs?

If you're running the standard LaRue 7.62 extension then you will need to replace it with a rifle length extension to mount the Gen 3 PRS. You'll also want to add LaRue's buffer tube spacer in order to run the stock buffer and spring.

Loaded up some test ammo over the weekend. Didn't get a chance to shoot it due to the high winds, but I'm hoping to shoot it next weekend.

1x fired Hornady brass from my rifle
Nosler 140 Custom Competition
Reloder 16 40-42.1 in .3 increments
CCI 200

Bumped the shoulder back .003 and loaded to 2.277 to the ogive. This is short enough to fit in a PMAG. I had planned on loading out a lot longer, but was getting significant bullet setback after chambering with longer OALs. I'm using the basic Hornady dies, don't know if I want to mess with bushing dies yet.

The Nosler 140 is one of the shorter 140-class bullets out there, shorter than the Norma 130s that I had planned to load. Hopefully these shoot, if not, I'll have to order up some 130 Bergers and ELD-Ms. Rounds are pictured in a PMAG and KAC mag.

I used to go crazy and load up 10 or even 15 rounds at each powder increment, but I've realized that is a waste of time. 3 round groups will show me where the node is, and I can play with seating depth after that. I look for accuracy first, then chrono afterwards. I'm looking for something that shoots .75MOA with a SD of 10 or less. That will be more than acceptable for the type of shooting I do, and the less time I spend chasing load development, the more time I can practice and compete.

Thanks guys and ill be sure to post some pics of how she shoots next weekend

If you're running the standard LaRue 7.62 extension then you will need to replace it with a rifle length extension to mount the Gen 3 PRS. You'll also want to add LaRue's buffer tube spacer in order to run the stock buffer and spring.
IIRC, the LaRues are running a carbine length buffer tube so I'm going to gently disagree and point you guys to this previous post:

Gen 3 PRS

The Gen 3 (with the dual extensions) will work with a carbine length buffer tube / spring combo and has an alternate extension for the rifle length buffer tube.  FRB is correct that if you do use a rifle length buffer tube, you need the LaRue specific buffer spacer.

LaRue Spacer vs Commercial Spacer

FRB is correct - I was not.  The 7.62 uses a slightly longer tube and to work with the Gen 3 you'll need a rifle length tube and LaRue spacer.

As to the LabRadar, I serious appreciate this tool.  I have a M3 and like it, but setting it up is cumbersome and takes time to get it right, for example, when going from unsuppressed to suppressed.  The LabRadar is removed from it's case, placed on the base and turned on. You verify your parameters using menus and then shoot.  As a downside, I've read the LR has to be treated gently and not dropped or abused so I always use the base plate and have an extra bag to weigh it down if the wind is pushing hard. The LR just seems easier to use, which translates to convenience. If you're considering the LR go big and get the baseplate and USB battery options.

I wouldn't either, but I need to do some ogive and COAL measurements with that rifle.

The Nosler 140 is one of the shorter 140-class bullets out there, shorter than the Normal 130s that I had planned to load.

Thanks for the update and pictures.  Some sage advice; I'm not sure if I can temper my OCD.

The LaRue 7.62 rifles do not use a standard carbine length tube, they use a proprietary tube that is not compatible with the Gen 3 PRS. This has been covered many times already.

I was wrong.  The LaRue tube is a bit longer and won't work with the Gen 3 unless you replace the LaRue tube with a rifle tube, which then requires the LaRue spacer.  I need to go back and edit posts.

Shot the .260 3 times just to verify function. 22" barrel shooting Hornady superformance 129gr sst with a griffin armament RSTA and the pst on the suppressed setting. Is anyone else seeing really dented case mouths on their brass? Looks to me like the extractor is slamming the brass into the barrel extension prior to it clearing the chamber although it seemed like the brass went to 3 o clock. Can post pics of said brass when I get home.

My 308 had some issues with extraction and stove piping as well and it ejects at about 1 o clock with the same can. Wondering if I need to mess with my buffer weights and try to slow everything down?

First group of the day was clean, cold bore plus 4 of the factory Hornady 130gr ELDms.

https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/52736/M5-H130-ELDM-Factory-Unsuppressed-CCB--4-228396.jpg

My .308 while shooting suppressed stove pipes and ejects at 1 like yours. My barrel came loose and th centering pin came out from changing a milizzle device so off to Larue it went. Also had another member mention his barre extention was not on very tight. Wondering if this was part of the issue with mine.

Over the past few range trips, I tried various combinations of buffer weights and springs.  On my LT .260 rifle running a SF SOCOM 7.62-Mini with the PST on suppressed setting (18" barrel), I initially experienced the same conditions, and found that the best buffer/spring combination for my rifle is H3/Orange.  Running the heavier buffer and spring combo slowed down the carrier and smoothed out the functioning of my rifle (no more buffer impact, 3 o'clock ejection, no more dented mouths on the brass, etc...).

However, I do not think that there is a single solution for all, and each rifle may act differently with a certain buffer/spring set-up.  Case in point is D3 is running a H2/Red with his Tranquilo, and the rifle runs great and ejects perfectly (suppressed and unsuppressed).  Clearly, the design of the TQ reduces blowback and DI pressure over a traditional suppressor configuration.  I have not tried the Tubb flatwire spring, but this is also another option that might produce good results.

Most of the time that dent is from the speed of the brass, I doubt it's barrel extension contact..unless you have scrapes. Probably just whack in the deflector.

What is the date of manufacture on your rifle?
