I'm not a insensitive prek here as my prayers go out to the families that have lost loved ones today and those who are injured but this will be a bad circumstance to have the anti-gun folks rally around. I'm expecting a Pelosi/Brady/etc news conference sometime tomorrow if not yet today calling for stricter gun control.

I agree, though have heard mention of the complete opposite throughout the day.

For instance, apparently VA has the easiest CCW law in the US (?) but VA Tech does not allow carry on campus. There has been multiple instances I have heard saying that the college is going to have a lot of questions to answer not only in regards to that, but their response between the first shooting, and the second coming 2 hours later. Lawsuit city.

But unfortunately you are correct in that the majority of our lovely liberal society will use this as yet another building block in their attempt to remove our firearms from our hands.

FWIW, the VA legislature had a bill that would have allowed firearms on college campus'. It never even got out of subcomittee (house bill 1572). VA tech spokesman Larry Hinker was happy to hear the bill was defeathed. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus".

If this comes to light, I bet the backlash (for more gun laws) will be very quiet.

Anyways, thats something you can tell people who want more gun control.

While my heart goes out to those families whose children were killed, and those people who were there and survived, a more cynical side of me is wondering what we aren't being told. (Or should I say what 'they' know but don't want to tell us.)  I think we all remember the shooting at the mall in Salt Lake City, and the fact that it wasn't until days later that it was even mentioned that he was a Muslim. (No, I'm not making accusations, or anything like that)  The media is usually running over the top of each other to be the first one with his identity and possible motives, and yet so far nothing. (Is it just possible that they learned from the Duke lacrosse "rape" case and are not rushing to judgement? I hope so, because if true that would be an amazing thing all by itself.)

I just wish that these sickos would just turn the gun on themselves much sooner that they do as I can see no reason to kill all those people and then go ahead and kill yourself. Maybe because of my age I just don't see it the same way as alot of the younger folks. I have broken up with (or should I say been broken up with) many girlfriends, but I never saw it as the end of the world and something worth killing over, and then killing myself besides. If so I am glad I will never understand.

I was pleasently surprise this morning. I was flipping channels when I ran across CNBC and their commentator talking about the CCW in Virgina and the call for stricter gun control. This commentator was effectively shut down by a reporter from NewsWeek (who woulda thunk) who stated that it's the CCW card holders that are the law abiding citizens and the RTBA is a inherent part of our country which will not be going away. The NewsWeek reporter went on to say that countries such as Canada have stringent gun control laws but still have the same shooting instances as we saw at VirTech.

It's nice to see a anti-gunner get shot down on national television.

I heard this also....
Just a thought here....
Those kids had eveything at their disposal to try and lower the body count.
Well,almost everything...except resourcefulness,and initiative.
Think about it.
There is one thing in every classroom in every school that every single student
has at their finger tips that will most definatly stop a bullet.
Know what it is???
Books....
Ever shoot into a phone book??
If 2 kids would stuffed their shirts w/ textbooks and rushed him while he
was reloading....The bodycount may have been a whole lot less.

Like I said....Just a thought.

How foolish of them not to do think of something like that!
They probably had plenty of time to come up with such an awesome plan!
Good Christ man!

I'm pretty sure I saw on a primetime show like 20/20 where one school was instructing students to pickup anything in sight and launch it at the attacker. They even went as far as having regular drills. I'd have to admit that 20-30 full size text books have got to put the hurt on someone. The psychological effect alone would buy the time needed to subdue the assailant.

only to see him swingin from the rafters w/a rope around
his neck....and bein the one to cut him down and
resusitate...the sound I heard was the chair bein knocked
over.
Divin in to a flooded river to save a 8 yr old kid from drownin
Takin a shotgun away from same brother on a differant
suicide attempt...
Findin a downed biker that went off the road, later to find
out his neck was broke, his back was broke and he was in a
coma for 45 days....

You didn't get my sarcasm I guess.
Read the entire post and you will see that I was talking about another persons view of what he thought should have happened.
I would NEVER call people in that situation cowards!
