Heading to Fairbanks for 12 days for work. Will have some time off. What to do? Things I must see? Places I gotta try for dinner? Got a hankering to try dog sledding. Anyone got a line on a good tour company? Or any local regular folks that would take a guy dog sledding? Thanks in advance |

Someone once said Fairbanks is the ugliest part of Alaska. And they weren’t wrong. With that I do call it home and love it. My neighbor does dogsled rides(the goat project). Also have another neighbor down the road that does a reindeer experience(running reindeer ranch). As for food I struggle to think of a place I’ve been blown away by. Chena hot springs is on a lot of peoples “to do”. It’s pretty touristy. Santa Claus house in North Pole is a well done overpriced gift shop. They do an ice carving championship in town. That’s cool to check out. Parks department offers ice fishing for like $35. They drill the hole and provide firewood and what not. You just need a rod and a license. Casner glacier is a couple hour drive. Fun to check out. Let me know. We can get a beer. |

I was up there back in March. We used Rod's Alaskan Guide Service in North Pole for dog sledding. They do snowmobiles as well. I felt the North Pole store was a complete waste, the reindeer attraction was closed when we were there. Check out the Fountain Head auto museum. The University of Alaska museum of the North was ok. Check out the visitor center in town, they were very helpful with things to do and food choices. Food wise, nothing stood out as great, but nothing was bad either. The fried halibut was great everywhere. I don't know where your staying, but the Hyatt Place sucked, would not recommend. The heat was broke in our room, 85 all the time. Took them 3 days to figure it out, but they did knock off 2 nights on the bill. Fairbanks seemed like a working town, nothing to do but work and drink, at least that's what the locals said. |

| I'm not sure if my .10 is too late for your trip, but I thought the Museum of the North was pretty good. There's another museum downtown that's free and recommended by locals, but I haven't been there yet. My favorite restaurants there are the Cookie Jar for breakfast, Soba Moldovan restaurant, and Bahn Thai. HooDoo Brewing is good and has interesting food trucks. |
