WKRN story Not sure if that is one of the easy-to-hotwire kias or not. This is the 2nd time they've been hit with a vehicle GREENBRIER, Tenn. (WKRN) — A vehicle was used to ram into a Robertson County gun store early Thursday morning. Officers were called to the Guns and Leather, located at 2216 Highway 41 South, around 5 a.m. Investigators believe a group of suspects used a Kia Soul to back into the glass door at a high rate of speed to gain access to the shop. It is not known if any weapons were taken. In July 2022, a truck was used to crash through the front entrance. It took the family-owned business a few days to reopen. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation. A full inventory of firearms will be conducted to determine how many guns were taken. |

The deal with the Kia and Hyundai theft that has been sensationalized by the media is that unlike ant other car, once you use your screwdriver to break the ignition lock cowling and lock tumbler, the slot in the ignition mechanism where you'd usually start the car with the screwdriver is rectangular shaped and some smaller flathead screwdrivers won't turn the switch. So ingenious teens figured out it was roughly the same size as a USB port and they unplug the phone cord from the USB port in the car and use it to turn the ignition mechanism thus starting the urban legend of "hot wiring" a Kia with a phone cord. That said guns and leather has been hit in a smash and grab before and probably should have upped their anti vehicle architecture. Secondly these groups of thieves have no fear of prosecution or real consequences if they are caught. Thirdly we need to drop the felony threshold for theft and vandalism from $1000 as it currently is to $50 and allow any citizen to use deadly force to prevent a felony theft or vandalism. |
I think one of the major problems with America today is not enough families sit down to a big plate of squirrels momma just fried up.

Wasn't there was a bill in the state legislature, a few months ago, to allow homeowners to use deadly force to stop theft, if that was what it took to stop the crime? |

If you don't bolt the planters down, they will be stolen. If you have to sink concrete bolts, you might as well mount something with a deterrent look. A couple decades ago, there was a gun store in west Nashville that got hit twice with stolen cars being driven through the front of the store, then eventually moved to another location. From what I heard after the first incident, it was a matter of their lease not allowing them to make such a drastic change to the building as properly anchored barriers, and their landlord apparently wouldn't agree to anything that changed the look of the exterior of the building. ETA: But if someone were to claim that the Nashville building permit office had been told to look for reasons to oppose permits to install barriers, that would seem to be a plausible theory. |

Nobody is going to be able to carry off the sort of concrete planters I'm talking about, they are crash rated. |
