Just attended the June IPSC class over at TCGC.  I must say that it is a much better class than I figured it would be.  The first few hours were class room lecture, lunch and a quiz.  After that, the class proceeded out to the range and live fire proceeded on four diff. courses.  We shot at 7 yard targets to start with, then proceeded to shoot cardboard and steel from behind barricades, then shot cardboard in three diff. positions - draw from holster- normal, strong hand, then switch to left hand for me, then run and shoot.  The whole class lasted approx. 8.5 hours.

The instructor and RO's were very professional, knowledgeable and friendly.  So now I'm certified to use the action ranges - been waiting 3 months.  Classes fill up fast!  From what I understand, there, on the action range, you can use pistols, shotguns and any rifle using pistol calibers.

If you live in the Greater Portland area and haven't taken the course yet, I'd recommend it - it's a very cool class.  You don't have to be a TCGC member to take the course but you will be charged a fee if you aren't.

Yep! Did it a few months ago. It was a pretty decent class. I'm hoping to shoot some IPSC matches soon.

I heard that they are going to do another class this month.. on a Sunday since there isn't any matches.  It might be worth it to contact Mary and see if it's gonna happen and if you can get in.

I signed up in March and got in the June class.  They would have taken another walk in or two as a couple folks didn't show.  If you have the time to spare it might be worth it just to show up at 0830 and ask see if you can get in.  I know the instructions on the TCGC site say that walk-ins will be turned away, but... today it would have worked.

Yup, Fred was the instructor.  He called himself "Fat Fred".  He didn't shoot so I can't attest to how fast he is.  Pretty good instructor though.

i finally got my action range cert in april?.  I was the only guy with a revolver too.

Fred was also teaching the class and fortunately we didnt have any ADs.  I know that really bothers him and he was sure happy we didnt have any major issues.  There were a couple people that didnt know their weapon and that really surprised me.  one guy was holding his autoloader wrong and the side bit his free hand.   Fred was trying to correct the guy, but you know how easy bad habits are easy to start and hard to stop.

im surprised they allow people thru there that dont know how to handle guns.  but i guess its up to them to call the shots.

im just happy there are those nice berms between the lanes.

We called him fast freddie because his draw is about the same tempo as mollases pouring out of a jar.

Yup...He draws just like he does teaching the class.

But, Mr. Fred is a good guy. I took the class before they added on the "mini-IPSC" stages. It pretty much told you the basics of IPSC, practiced drawing, transitioning, etc. so you didn't shoot anyone, etc.
