I'm heading there shortly for a week, and know nothing about it.
I'll be downtown at the Murray Premises Hotel, from which it looks like the whole place is walkable. I like long walks, fish dinners, and seeing the sights. Any recommendations to do or avoid? My evenings are free but not my days. |

Signal Hill (both the defenses and the Marconi thing), the Rooms (the WWI/Somme coverage was very sobering, and previously unknown to me), private boat tour around Conception Bay. I like chicken but have not walked to Mary Brown's yet, which I hear is the KFC equivalent here. I'm really surprised by the sheer number of Irish pubs. I guess it makes sense when I look at a map? I've enjoyed the local beers and wines, some of which I'll be bringing home. Have had a fair bit of iceberg ice in my drinks. Very wary of the honorary Newfie suggestion.  You first. 
And there you go: St. John's in a nutshell, from an outsider's perspective. It was my first visit to Newfoundland, and now I have some ideas about where I'd like to explore/visit in a nonwork visit. I think iceberg season sounds good. |

Well, I'm outta here tomorrow. I have enjoyed my visit, and will be back on nonwork time when I can poke around the island and do justice to it.

I was made an honorary Newfie many many moons ago by some Royal Newfoundland Regiment infantry soldiers I was on course with.
Anything they make you do in a bar pales in comparison to what those jokers came up with.
