Those 3" round battery operated LED lights usually sold in three packs at Home Depot.  The kind you push the lenses for on/off.  You can mount them with loop velcro on the back of the light and it sticks to the carpet.  For a more permanent install put a screw through the battery  compartment plate and the fixture twists on it.

I saw something like that at Harbor Freight...3pack for $14. I like the idea of pushing the lens to turn on vs trying to find the on switch.  Thanks!

They provide enough light for power outages and you can put them where ever you want inside.  They sell a bigger version that should be considered for on a wall outside the safe so you can see the lock in a power outage.  They are about six inches and will provide enough light to get it open in case you don't have a light on the mechanism itself.

I've got a short clear rope-light with strips of velcro wrapped around it every 4~6". Sticks to the wall around the door, lights things up nice and even.

I have two florescent lights in mine about 12" long.
One screwed under the shelf and one screwed above
the door.
I have a liberty safe and there is a rolled edge around the inside of
the door. I used 1/4" screws and screwed them between the lip.
Hope that helps you.
