I've never cared for the fact that Perry sells our roads to foreign companies, forces our daughters to get immunizations from his political supporters, or deregulated our insurance so that its among the most expensive in the country. But, I've always taken comfort that he has been a strong supporter of the Second Ammendment.
That said, if he doesn't stand up and nullify the BS that's gonna roll down Capitol Hill tomorrow, I won't have much use for him. |

ETA: For the first time in 150 years, we have a Gov that has signed EVERY single gun bill that has gotten to his desk, and not signed an single anti-gun one. And gun owners are still unhappy.

LMGTFY Link. Wiki I don't understand your last statement. What should we be happy or unhappy about? Running a state is complicated. I'm happy that he has been on our side on a lot of the issues, but he screws up a lot of stuff. |

Other than allow foreign companies to build toll roads, what roads has he sold to foreign companies? What immunization does my daughter have to get?(not gardasil, that died years ago, and had a parental opt out). What do you mean, "Other than...". That IS the problem. So, other than your mom dying, how was your day? And the Gardasil thing is NOW dead. He originally issued an executive order, which was overturned in the legislature. In an attempt to save it, the added the parental opt-out. |

So what you are saying is, if he does not use a legal procedure that has never been legally upheld, and in fact has been rejected by SCOTUS, on POTUS actions we still do not know at this time, you have no use for the most pro-gun Governor in the history of the state. Gotcha. |

Yes they're improving it but a 50 plus year lease with variable toll rates on a road through the heart of Dallas has bad deal written all over it. |

As I recall he listened to THE PEOPLE when we told him NO about immuniziations. When he tried to make it mandatory, THE PEOPLE were given no choice. It was going to be a massive fight, and, to his credit, he relented. However, the appearance of taking a campaign contribution just prior to issuing an executive order is not good. |

However, Perry has been a great governor for Texas. |

No disagreement. We'll have 10 (or 7) round mags in our Glocks and ARs, we'll get to register everything "evil", possibly pay a $200 tax on them, too, and Perry won't do anything. Oh, and grandfathering isn't even a given. What do you imagine Perry can do about federal laws and executive orders? |

Was the road sold to them, or the rights to manage the tolls sold in exchange for improvements? I moved from the Dallas area in 2007 to Ft Worth, so I admittedly don't pay a lot of attention to this. Won't there be free lanes remaining? Was there a bid process for the vendor? |

Won't there be free lanes remaining? Was there a bid process for the vendor? As I understand the deal, and it's a complicated one, Centra and other investors paid/are paying for the improvements along with grant money. For their investment they get the toll money and along with NTTA will maintain the roads. The problem with this is they can charge whatever they want and the roads are managed tolls meaning the busier the road during the day the more they will charge. Centra was involved in the Trans Texas project as well. You can see some of the details here, http://www.newlbj.com/default.asp?p=2&s=1. The deal apparently was so bad K Baily-Hutchinson and a few other Federal R's backed legislation to stop states from using federal highway funds to build toll roads or to convert highways to toll roads. I don't know if that passed. Didn't mean to thread jack here so I leave it with this little gem that should make the hair on back of your neck standup. From A&M's transportation school, "Managed lanes, which typically involve a toll component, are being used more as a public policy tool as opposed to considering tolls as solely a financing mechanism." at http://d2dtl5nnlpfr0r.cloudfront.net/tti.tamu.edu/documents/4160-9.pdf |

Didn't Perry say this was his last go around anyways? Unless, he plans on running for some other office, I don't think we have much to worry about. I've been watching Greg Abbott lately and he looks to be doing and saying all the right things to make him attractive as an alternative to Perry. |

There will be six toll lanes where the current freeway runs and they are constructing 6-8 overhead lanes that are free plus a new frontage road. The managed toll prices will change according to traffic and to maintain their "guarantee" speed of at least 50MPH. |

Geez Louise! It sounds like some of you guys would like to grab some shovels and dig up Ann Richards.
Personally, I have never seen anyone in higher public office that did 100% everything I agreed with. I think Perry has done a pretty darn good job overall. I do however admit I vote on 2A support/record first and foremost. |

Perry's response to Obama;
Gov. Rick Perry released the following statement regarding President Obama's executive actions:
"The Vice President's committee was appointed in response to the tragedy at Newtown, but very few of his recommendations have anything to do with what happened there. "Guns require a finger to pull the trigger. The sad young man who did that in Newtown was clearly haunted by demons and no gun law could have saved the children in Sandy Hook Elementary from his terror. "There is evil prowling in the world - it shows up in our movies, video games and online fascinations, and finds its way into vulnerable hearts and minds. As a free people, let us choose what kind of people we will be. Laws, the only redoubt of secularism, will not suffice. Let us all return to our places of worship and pray for help. Above all, let us pray for our children. "In fact, the piling on by the political left, and their cohorts in the media, to use the massacre of little children to advance a pre-existing political agenda that would not have saved those children, disgusts me, personally. The second amendment to the Constitution is a basic right of free people and cannot be nor will it be abridged by the executive power of this or any other president." |

How many other governors would show up at the Texas Multigun Championship in the pouring rain to shake hands and shoots AR's? I can live with a few toll roads!!!! +1 I just go out of my way to boycott ever using any of the toll roads. Around Austin it is pretty easy since most of them don't go anywhere I need to except that they've now turned 290 out towards Houston into a toll road and they've made the free alternative really awful. |
