| Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't they switch to Sig 229R's in .40 ? If so, is it in DA/SA or DAK ? What is their issue duty round ? I am considering applying and just wanted more information. |
Very true - at least on the psych test I took to be a firefighter, which I think is the same thing. There were several questions about if you like guns, hunting, etc, but they were worded such that if you said yes, it made you look like some militia gun nut. |
| yeah the NHP has a little psych questionaire after you do the written and it asks gun questions. I was a little pissed about it. NHP is a little slower on the notifications to find out results of oral boards. They actually did mine over the phone. Seemed odd but I passed. The weapon issue doesn't bother me it's the other administrator b.s. that can get you hurt in the field. |

Quoted: With all due respect, the last thing I would worry about when applying to an agency is what weapon they issue. Watch you don't get yourself branded as a gun nut by the psych guys...they love to pick at that thread.[/q The issue weapon and ammo will not make me choose another Department based on if they give me a Glock, Sig or anything else. I just was wondering what they have. No big deal. |
Yes Bubba, your right. We did transistion to the SIG 229R. We tried to issue 165 gr Rangers too, but alas the 229R would not run well with it. So we went back to issueing 180gr for the 229R's. Now some of us that carry our own guns have 165gr with the blessing of the brass, but we are a tiny, tiny minority. I have seen a lot of change in the past 12 years with the Patrol. We are in good shape atm. We have a real deal chief. The current director is out the door with the new Gov. So we will be in good shape for at least the next few years. So to the prospective applicant I say this: The last thing on your mind should be what we carry. Lets see if you survive the hiring process first. Then your next hurrdle will be the academy. If your still around maybe then you can worry about the PSTO program. If you manage to pass that, and your off probation then maybe you can decide to carry your own gun, and ammo. As long as it meets DPS policy. Don't put the cart before the horse my young friend. |
