Just wondering how far people go these day's to develop that wining load? How many different brands of bullets, brass, primers, powders etc have you used? Or do you normally just aim for e.g 1 MOA or less then call it good. I know most people run very nearly the same load in the AR's but did they work up the load until they hit the charge weight they have been told to use or have they found it them self's by running several OCW test's? as every rifle is different. Just a quick thought as I cant sleep.

Sorry It's causing you sleepless nights - my amnesia prescription is as follows: 24.2g on N140 and SMK77 Lapua Brass, LC Brass, Winchester Brass, Privi Brass 24.5g Varget or RL15 and 77SMK Lapua Brass, LC Brass, Winchester Brass, Privi Brass easy Sounds about right. It's been said that 24.5 RL15 is a bit hot, but I've known plenty of people that have loaded that without any problems. A good AR will shoot 5/8-3/4 MOA with any of those loads. Doesn't need to be any better than that, too many other things going on |

I tried just 2 combinations:
24.5 Rel15 / Lapua & Win brass / 77smk - Gave me 2750fps - 20" 1in 8 24.1 Rel15 /Lapua & Win Brass / 77smk- Gave me 2625 fps No issues with extraction and primers seemed fine with the hotter load. 24.1 gave better accuracy, so thats what I use. No need to go faster or beat up the brass. Incidentally this is also the "Accuracy load" in the Sierra Manual. |

R15 and only 24-24.1gn behind a 77SMK.
I worked up loads with 77SMKs and 75Hornadys and found the 77s best and the charge at anywhere 23.8 and 24.6 gave the same results on paper, the 24.6 was a bit hot but now I know if the charge weight is off be a few points it don't matter. Tried different powders and found R15 as good as any (and better than Varget) so stuck with it. |
