After seeing the pics in here of the rifles that were crispy I got to thinking about my insurance and was wondering if they would cover mine if something were to happen.

Do I need a specific rider for them or are they automatically covered? I guess to know for sure I would need to call.

My insurance guy told me if they had been stolen they would have to been on a individual rider. But since they got a little crispy they had to cover them.

You answered your own question.  I think mine covers a thousand bucks worth and the NRA covers most of the rest.

Investigate before you call. From what I have heard (internet rumors of course) some companies will just drop you when they find out you have guns.

Doesn't the NRA insurance only cover $1,000? Or can you buy more.

My homeowner's insurance in through Allstate and my agent has told me that their standard policy covers firearm loss for up to $8,000. I should probably buy a little more.

Hmmm...I will have to tread lightly I guess with this one. I'm sure that for most of us here $1,000 wouldn't go very far.

Yes and yes.  $1K automatically with your membership but they have goods rates for additional coverage.

ETA, I just wish I had coverage before the tragic boating accident....

The specific instance I recall was posted here at arfcom about a guy who built a range in his back yard. His company was State Farm. When the agent saw the range his State Farm policy was cancelled. They refused to insure him at all. It is not company policy, but that company leaves too much up to each individual agent.

Others have claimed to have good luck with State Farm. I myself will never buy State Farm for anything. (not because of the previously mentioned instance, but for an instance that I am personally aware of, where again too much was left to the discretion of the individual agent. The company stands behind their agents.)

Cannon safe rated for 1200degrees for 40 minutes

Fire investigator said with the two diesel vehicles in there it was probably burning close to 2500 degrees and it took the FD 2 hrs to put it out

That's what I'm wondering too.  Were the rifles just blackened or were they melted and warped?  How long was the fire around the safe etc?  It would be nice to see some real life experiences on fire ratings and how stuff lasts in a safe.  Did you have any ammo in there and did it cook off if you did?

Most homeowners policy limit coverage to 2500.00 total for firearm (thief and fire).

Cost to schedule my additional firearms is 1.35 per hundred, no ded, special risk coverage, even if you loss it in a boating accident Plus I didnt have to give serials number, just item description..

Man that safe is a sad sight

Many policys have a higher limit for everything except theft ie. $2500 for theft, much more for fire.

One thing I did run into when I had to file a claim a few years ago was that the insurance company wanted to have it so that the firearm included everything that was attached to it at the time of the loss ie. scope, mounts, sling, bipod, etc.  I got them off of that track but it took some work on my part to do so.  Some of you may remember it being discussed in GD 3or4 years ago.

Good Point.  Just wondering.

If that was your cheap stuff, I want to see the good stuff

I have Snake Farm ins. and I bought a rider.  I have far exceeded the rider and I am looking for additional insurance at this time myself.
